IPB Promotes the Utilization of Traditional Medicine as Our Heritage
The festive atmospherewas planned in front Taman KencanaCapus of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Sunday, 22 September 2013. BiopahramacaCenter, PusatStudiBiofarmaka, LembagaPenelitiandanPengembanganKepadaMasyarakat (PSB-LPPM-IPB) planned various programs, such as writing competition on traditional medicinal (jamu) article on the blog, and the Book Launching "Taman TerapiMandiri : Diabetes Melitus(garden self therapy: Diabetes mellitus", colouring and drawing competition, plant and herbal products markets, guessing the name of plants, and preparing herbal medicine contest. Those various program were planned to celebrate the 15th Anniversary PSB-LPPM-IPB and 50thAnniversary of IPB as well.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Ir. LetiSundawati, M.Sc.F.Trop, said, in the framework of celebrating both the 50th Anniversary of IPB and the 15th Anniversary of BiopharmacaCenter(PSB)we organized a series of program on the theme "LestarikanJamusebagaiBudaya Indonesia (Promote the traditional medicine as the Indonesian Culture)". "The objectives of organizing this special event are to encourage all levels of society to utilize and preserve the traditional medicine as part of the valuable Indonesia heritage," said Dr.Leti. This special event was the culmination of the series of program to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of IPB. It was held prior to the implementation of the Workshop Jamu Informatics(Traditional Medicinal Informatics Workshop), where we introduce Information Systems on the Indonesian JamuHerbal (Si Ijah) which was held on 9 September 2013.
Head of PSB LPPM-IPB, Prof. Dr.Latifah K. Darusman, MS, said: "In this Medicinal Informatics Workshop, we are launching SiIjah. This information system will assist us to blend herbs using computers. I hope this event will going on well, thanks for resource person as well as the facilitators who have made this event fruitful".
In this Chairman of the LPPM-IPB (SBRC IPB), Dr. Ir. Prastowo, M.Eng congratulated the BiopharmacaCenterfor its 15th anniversary. "The Center is a national centerfor excellence, therefore it is deserved to get high appreciation. The Center should always be aware for its future challenges. The Center has implemented a lot of research projects, and they published in local and international books and journals. In the near future, the Center is expected to synergize it research program for its maximum results to respond the nation’s problems, "said Dr.Prastowo.
In this special event, the exhibition of medicinal plants, free health consultation, and herbal treatment by the AsosiasiPengobatTradisional Indonesia(ASPETRI– the Indonesian Traditional Healing Association) were offered for the audiences. Most of the participants seemed enthusiastic to enjoy the offer. Children were invited for colouring and drawing contests. Whereas their mother were busy joining the traditional medicine blending contests. It is expected that the various items of the program attracted the community at large to preserve their culture to use and preserve their traditionalmedicine, thus, there won’t be the last generation in utilizing traditional culture for national development.
