Many research results do not become innovations because of inadequate dissemination. Information technology is available, yet it is underutilized for the dissemination of information/innovation. This was the view of Head of CARE IPB Prof. Dr. Sumardjo as a speaker on the Talk Show "Accelerating Dissemination of Science and Technology for Sustainable Development" (6/9), held as part of the activities in the 50th Anniversary of IPB in cooperation Bank BRI.

"Therefore, the information technology-based dissemination of innovation by utilizing extension workers and local institutions is an ideal model with some improved roles of each disseminating actors in accordance with their strategic environments," said Prof. Sumardjo.

Earlier, Head of LPPM (Institution of Research and Community Services) of IPB Dr. Prastowo admits many research results still remain in the campus in the form of written documents or in the form of technology ready to be disseminated. With regard to this, added Dr. Prastowo, some time to come an IPB Cyber Extension IPB will be launched in order to get closer to the communities. Thus, it will be much easier, cheaper and faster for the public to access the existing science and technology.

As if answering the above problems, Head of Environmental Research Center (PPLH) IPB Dr Hefni Effendi, who is a guest speaker, gave a complete picture of the model village with energy self-sufficiency for food security, which has been successfully developed by the center under his leadership. It is the electricity supply by harnessing water resources for Lebakpicung village in Lebak of Banten province that becomes PPLH’s mission at that time. And now, through the dissemination of science and technology, there are villages around the National Park of Halimum Salak Mountain that have become villages self-sufficient in microhydro-based energy.

The talk show moderated by Prof Dr Muladno of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry IPB is also invited resource persons having competence in their field. They include Prof. Dr. Agik Suprayogi (Vice Head of LPPM IPB), Prof. Dr. Didy Sopandie (Faculty of Agriculture IPB), Dr. Prabawa Eka Susanta (Research Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs), and Dr. Sony Teguh Trilaksono (General Manager Executive Project Management Office and Partnership, Indosat).
