Food, Climate Change and Economic Globalization

Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) of IPB held the seminar of "Pangan, Perubahan Iklim dan Globalisasi Ekonomi / Food, Climate Change and Economic Globalization" at IPB Convention Centre, Bogor, Friday (6/9). This seminar was the series of IPB Agrifuture Expo 2013 held in the 50 Anniversary of IPB. 
 
In his welcome speech, the Dean of Fema IPB, Dr Arief Satria, highlighted, “About food is not merely a technical issue as producing food. As well as the economic globalization is not merely supply and demand, and the climate change is not just carbon emissions. But it concerns politics and governance and Indonesia’s competitiveness." 
 
For competitiveness, Dr. Arief cited about the price of Vietnamese catfish that flooded the Indonesian market at a price of Rp 7,000 per kg. And we all knew that our local fish production cost reached of Rp 7.500 per kg with a minimum selling price of Rp 9,000 per kg.  Further he said, the imported food products increasingly heavy stormed the domestic market. It became Indonesia’s food security challenge.  “Indonesian agricultural sustainability is largely determined by the ability to compete with the other food producer countries,” he added.  
 
The main  speaker in the seminar was, the Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation, Dr Makarim Wibisono. This seminar was held by the cooperation of IPB with Bank BRI. (man)
