"Thank God, all tiredness seems to have disappeared," said Prof. Dr. Munif Ghulamahdi when met at his office in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture (AGH) Darmaga Campus of IPB, Thursday (22/8). This short remark of Prof. Munif was expressed after the field visit of Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT), Prof. Dr. MA Chozin and Rector, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, as well as Chairman of the Department of AGH, Dr. Ir Agus Purwito to the experimental garden of tidal land in the village of Banyu Urip, Tanjung Lago District, Banyu Asin Regency, Palembang in South Sumatra on Tuesday (20/8).

The soybean researcher said he was happy with the visit of IPB leaders to his ‘work place’ following the year 2009. The happiness was also felt by the farmers from different villages coming to the field led by IPB because their desire to get guidance from IPB will soon be realized. This was the case after Rector said that there is opportunity for these villages to be the places for the  Profession Wirk Course (CTF) of IPB students.

The farmers’ interest came up after Prof. Munif succeeded in making one acre of land capable of producing 4 tons of soybean per season. This figure is well above the national average of only 1.2 tons per hectare.

Further, Prof. Munif said that Rector also requested that these activities, which are carried out with the students, should be followed up and need an integration with a variety of disciplines. Similar support is also obtained from MWA Chairman Prof. M. A Chozin, who advises to always make use of local resources in any field activities.

"This success is certainly due to the support of the  S1, S2 and S3 students. I always tell them that work on the field is one of our worship. Therefore, although they are far away, they will always be happy at work," said Prof Munif. (Mtd)
