Welcome IPB’s New Students of Batch 50

Welcome IPB’s New Students of Batch 50

News
Chairman of the Student’s Parent Association (POM) of IPB, Dr. Hasim, DEA., invites the parents of IPB’s new students for the Academic Year of 2013/2014 to be ever grateful for the admission of their sons and daughters into IPB because at the same time there are millions of high school graduates are struggling to get into state universities (PTN) through a Joint Selection Test to enter state universities (SBMPTN).

Dr. Hasim’s call is delivered in the presence of thousands of parents of new students in the Graduation Building Graha Widya Wisuda (GWW), Darmaga Campus of IPB, in the meeting with the parents of new students, Tuesday (18/6). According to Dr. Hasim, the choice to enter the IPB is the right one, amid the increasing world food needs. By studying in IPB, automatically their children have helped with the availability of food.

In the same place, IPB Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Yonny Koesmaryono said IPB intentionally held the meeting with the parents of new students to coincide with SBMPTN because IPB does not want opportunistic prospective students, i.e. those also taking the SBMPTN. "IPB does not want to be put in the second place," said Prof.Yonny, greeted by the thunderous applause from those present.

Prof. Yonny IPB also describes a number of IPB’s advantages, including the availability of housing for new students for the first year, in addition to the Single Tuition (UKT) described in detail to the parents. And later these became an interesting discussion in the question and answer session, though.

For example the parents from Solo in Central Java suggested that the obligation for students to stay in the dormitory be for the whole period of studies until they graduate, not like now only one year. Responding to this, straightforwardly Prof. Yonny explained that the IPB also wants the same thing, but not possible for one reason and another. There is a protest from the communities around the campus as they have boarding houses and feel disadvantaged if the students must stay in the dormitory for four years. "Instead of four years, even one year of stay in the dorm is protested by the community,” said Prof. Yonny.

Earlier, IPB Rector Prof. Herry Suhardiyanto happily welcomed the presence of the parents of IPB’s 2,150 new students. With pride, he said that this year is the golden batch of new students as it coincides with the 50th birthday of IPB in 2013.

In another session, Rector also briefly discussed UKT about which a lot of parents asked. He says that UKT is the central government policy, that is, Ministry of Education and Culture. However IPB, known as the people’s campus, has managed to convince the government to implement this UKT into eight categories.

Present on this occasion were Chairman of IPB’s Board of Trustee (BoT), Prof. Dr. Chozin Ahmad; Deans; Director of Joint Preparation Program (TPB), Dr. Ibn Qayim and Head of Dormitory Managing Board, Dr.Irmansyah Management Agency. (Nm)

Meeting of the student’s parents with IPB leaders took place in two places. For Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, it is held in the Gymnasium of Darmaga Campus of IPB. (Mtd)
