Nearly 100 Million Indonesian People are under the Poverty line
In front of Deputy Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the House of Representatives (DPR), as well as students of IPB, Prof.Dr.Ir. YonnyKoesmaryono, MSc. stated that the economy status of 50 million of the Indonesia people are considered to be richfamilies, 70 million are categorized into middle class, and the rest (about 100 million people) are still in poverty line.
"We still have problems in poverty eradication, as 11.66% of the Indonesian people are classified to be in poverty line. In some areas the total number of poor people have reached 12%, in Java 9%, and in Sumatra 11%. Only around 50 million people are classified to be rich people, 70 million people are classified to be middle class group, and the remaining are on poverty line. According to the KomisiEkonomiNasional (National Economic Commission – KEN) the poorer the families are, they have more difficulties to access the economic development. When we talk on economic democracy, the most important thing to do will be changing the life of 100 million poor people into more prosperous life, "he expressed when he delivered his opening remarks in the “4 Pillars Goes To Campus” event in the Auditorium Thoyib H, DarmagaCampus, on 1 April 2013.
The socialization with the theme “Political Economy of Economic Democracy”, presented three speakers, namely: (1).Hj. According to Prof. Yonny, economic democracy have focused their attention on the Development of rural communities. Because currently the pockets of poverty in Indonesia are mostly occur in the villages. Therefore, if the economic status of farmer in the village are being increased, the poverty line in Indonesia will be reduced
The economic democracy as stipulated in the MPR Decree No. 16 of 1998, on Political Economy in the Framework of Economic Democracy is the economic program made by the people, for the people, and by the people. According to the democracy, partnership between small and medium entrepreneurs with big business and the State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) should be developed. In addition, those small and medium enterprises, as well as cooperatives should be utilizeas the basis of the national economy. The statement was expressed by Dr. Ir. ArifBudimanta, MSc., members of the MPR – F PDI-P, on behalf of the Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly on the special event.(Wied).
