35 of 1959 Alumni to Reminisce to IPB

A total of 35 alumni of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) of 1959 reminisced to Campus of IPB Darmaga, Thursday (16/5) at Campus of IPB Darmaga. Chieftains of 1959 Batch, Ir.Ahmad Sobari, said that his visit to IPB was to stay in touch with his alma mater. “We experienced being transported by the truck to attend the laying of the foundation stone of IPB Darmaga by Ir.Soekarno. The campus was once a rubber forest. Just imagine these mothers who used to be pretty girls had to squeeze up truck,” recalled Ir.Ahmad Sobari followed by laughter from the audiences.
 
According to Ir. Ahmad, as a form of devotion to the alumni of 1959 Batch  they had founded Fajar Harapan Orphanage consisting of 70 children. “We funded them since graduating from elementary school to university graduation. Alhamdulillah we have one child  that has graduated and one child is writing his thesis at IPB. In addition, there are eight more children to continue studying at other universities. We expect from this visit there is a new knowlegde that can be adopted to educate our children so that we are better,” said Ir. Ahmad.
 
Vice Rector for Resources and Development of IPB, Prof. Hermanto Siregar, warmly welcomed  the visit of ‘his senior’  in the Meeting Room of Rector. In his speech, Prof.Hermanto presented an overview of the latest development of IPB. “IPB is recognized as the first Faculty of Agriculture in Indonesia,  now the Faculty of Agriculture of IPB is the 200 world ranking,” said Prof.Hermanto.
 
Dean of Faculty of Agriculture of IPB, Dr.Ernan Rustandi,  told that at the moment IPB currently reconstituted the history of IPB and was sending an envoy to the Netherlands. “Mr. Somad already left for Netherlands to collect the historical literature of IPB establishment, we hope one day we can write the logo of IPB the writing since 1940 as the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) logo that lists since 1920,” he said.
 
On the occasion, Vice Head of Institute of Research and Community Empowerment (LPPM) IPB for Community Empowerment, Dr.Prastowo, also explained the devotion of IPB to the community. After continued sense in the Meeting Room of Rector, the  event continued to visit the laboratoies and rove the Campus of IPB. (ris)
