Herry Suhardiyanto Has Been Reelected as Rector of IPB
Jakarta, 29 November 2012.
Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto has been reelected as the Rector of IPB for the second term as recommended by the Plenary Session of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of IPB, on Thursday night, 29 November 2012, in Jakarta.
Prof. Herry was voted by 75.4% of the members of the Boards of Trustees. Dr Asep Saefudin was voted by 17.4%, whereas Prof. Zairin was voted by 3.6%.
Born in Banjarnegara on 10 September 1959, Herry had completed his undergraduate degree program in agricultural technology from IPB, and earned his Masters Degree from Kochi University, Japan, and his Doctorate Degree from the Ehime University, Japan in 1994.
As reelected as rector, he will execute his duties in the second term for the period 2012-2017, after he has finalized his first term for 2007-2012. During his first term, in the last four years IPB had successfully produced a number of innovative works that had been recognized as the highest compared to other universities in Indonesia, as reported by Kemenristek RI, thus IPB has been proclaimed as the most innovative campus in Indonesia.
The plenary session of the BoT of IPB was attended by all members the BoT, and was chaired by the Prof. M. Chozin as Chairman, Dr. Mukhlis Yusuf Ahmad, Vice Chairman, and Prof. Rizal Syarief, as Secretary.
Minister of Education and Culture of Indonesia, Prof. Muhammad Nuh, who represents the government of Indonesia and has 35% of voting right attended the BoT meeting. Other members who attended such meeting were Dr. Suswono, Dr. Sugiharto, Prof. Didik J. Rachbini, Mr. Ahmad Heryawan, Mr. Zaim Ukhrawi, and members of University Senate of IPB.
On Tuesday, 27 November 2012, the three candidates for Rector have committed to work in synergy when they met in the Executive Meeting of BoT. During which, Prof. Herry states: "The area of academic devotion of IPB is so large, as the agricultural sciences both faculty members and students serve are very strategic. IPB is a group of academicians who are endeavor to do the best for its alma mater and the nation. As Rector of a University, I am being trusted and confided to run my post as best as I could ".
Herry stated in his commitment that he will work together with the other candidates:
"The three of us are ready to synergize our agendas for the to advancement of our beloved university, as we understand that current issues on food, energy, the environment, economic development, and poverty alleviation are great challenges for the nation, they very relevant to the core competencies of IPB as the nursery of science, technology, and innovation. Moreover, the graduates of IPB are characterized by entrepreneurship, they ready to respond those challenges "said Herry further.
Plenary Session of the Opened Meeting with agenda on the election of Rector took place at the Darmaga Campus. Panelists for the session were BoT members and expert panel who are consisted of the former rectors. Meanwhile, Minister of Education as representative of the government, who has 35% of voting rights attended the Closed Session of the evening.
Chairman of BoT, Prof. Chozin, expressed his appreciation for the Organizing Committee for Rector Election led by Prof. Toto Toharmat, and members of the university community who have involved in the selection process, which was dynamic and constructive.
"Most importantly in the present election process, the awareness of all members the academic communities have increased and they share their roles to restore IPB’ roles in solving various problems of agricultural-based and marine tourism development in this country" said Chozin at the end. (Wied).
