IPB with the Municipality Government of Depok has agreed to work together to support the government program of food diversification. The collaboration manuscript was signed by both parties in the Meeting Room of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Darmaga campus of IPB, (21/5). IPB agrees to provide analog rice,  the type of rice made from corn and sago, an innovation by the Faculty of Agricultural Technology to meet the need of the ODNR program in Depok.

Depok Mayor, Nur Mahmudi Ismail reveals that Depok itself has been running such program since February 12, 2012, but it is not easy for Depok City Government to change the pattern of rice consumption habits among its citizens. So far Depok Municipality has been practicing ODNR every Tuesday in its government offices, replacing rice with boiled crops such as maize, sweet potatoes, potatoes and others. However, the mayor thinks that it certainly will not be sustainable because it does not correspond to a balanced and varied menu. There should be more ongoing examples of cuisine, he said.

Further, this is not the only issue; the snack foods in canteens such as instant noodles and meatballs noodles, which are made from flour, have to be replaced with local food and this is not something easy to do. Thus, according to Nur Mahmudi Ismail, the cooperation with IPB is the right choice. IPB has a lot of food technology innovations including non-wheat-based noodles.

In the event, how to cook the analog rice was demonstrated, with the result very similar to rice cooking in general. How to make fried analog rice was also demonstrated. Observing the demonstration, the Mayor looked satisfied and immediately tasted the fried analog rice.

In addition to the display of analog rice, a variety of dishes made from analog rice and corn noodle were served. IPB in this partnership will meet the needs of the ODNR Program in Depok. Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Dr. Sam Herodian, said that for a start, as the need of the canteens in the Local Government of Depok city is about 6 to 7 liters, the analog rice will be delivered to that amount. Sam Herodian further said that to meet the need of Depok, the analog rice will be produced by IPB itself. (Mtd)
