University of Missouri Explores Biotechnology Cooperation with IPB
IPB received guests from St. Louis City, United States. The visit to IPB is to explore possible cooperation in education and agricultural development. Dr. Syarifah Iis Aisha, Faculty Secretary for Research, Partner Cooperation and Publications, an Alumni of Faculty of Agriculture, IPB, who had since the beginning accompanying the guests, said that earlier they had the chance to visit Bogor Town Hall to provide assistance in the form of exchange student scholarships to several schools in Bogor. In addition to the student exchange, Bogor will also be selected as a sister city of St. Louis, so there will be cooperation in various fields including farming.
During the visit to IPB, the delegation was received in the Meeting Room of the Academic Senate, Darmaga Campus of IPB, 17/12. As for agricultural cooperation, IPB hopes that besides student exchanges, cooperation in agricultural biotechnology can be explored with the University of Missouri, Columbia. This is important because the need for food will increase with the population growth, which is also increasing. This was expressed by Dr. Sudarsono in the presentation representing IPB. Furthermore, the International Trade Director of Agricultural Ministry Mesah Tarigan said that Indonesia and the United States have also committed to cooperation concerning the potentials such as the use of bioenergy in the future.
Responding to this, Senator of St. Louis City, Crishtoper Bond, said that Agricultural Biotechnology to support food security has become a global issue not only in Indonesia, so that he thinks that such cooperation can certainly be made: "W will support each other and complement each other deficiencies", he said.
