IPB’s Year-End Reflection
The development policies from the New Order era to the present have been in favor of urban areas and the elites. "Therefore a paradigm shift of development is required with more autonomy, equality and sustainability as well as an emphasis on agricultural and rural sectors in a broad sense as an entry point in its operational policies," said Rector of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. Herry Suhardiyanto in the End of Year Reflection Program called ‘Actualization of IPB’s Role in Implementing the New Paradigm of Autonomous, Equitable and Sustainable Development’, Friday (30/12) in the IPB International Convention Center.
More clearly, Rector of IPB explained further that the future agriculture is one that is not only self-sufficient (independent), but also a more environmentally friendly (sustainable) and able to realize the welfare of farmers (fair).
Through a firm foundation of this paradigm, IPB is conducting a management of innovative and structured researches by formulating some stages of research (research umbrella), identifying research results (output) as well as utilizing them through effective dissemination in order to give a positive impact to the society. "IPB for the last few years has been a university with the most innovative works in Indonesia through the results of research and technology development," said Rector. In the selection of "The Most Prospective National Innovative Work " organized by the Ministry for Research and Technology in cooperation with the Business Innovation Center, for four consecutive years between the years 2008-2011, IPB has always been dominant in the innovation works, accounting for 131 out of the total 406 most prospective innovations.
Meanwhile the community services and assistance continue to be the main means of disseminating and utilizing the results of studies by IPB, either by strengthening the villages around the campus, or any other activities such as the introduction of plant clinics in the regencies, use and dissemination of biological fertilizers recommended by the National Innovation Committee ( KIN).
Rector said that IPB plans to build a "Gallery of IPB Innovations" to present its roles for 50 years since its establishment. "It is expected that the gallery is built in 2013, and its planning is to be completed in 2012," said Rector.
Chairman of MWA (Board of Trustees) IPB, Prof. Didik J. Rachbini admitted that if compared with other campuses, IPB is more diligent in research. "When I was trusted to take the position of chairman of the Board, I saw a very special case of IPB," said Prof. Rachbini. Then, he gave a suggestion that IPB do more with interfacing and entrepreneurship of the research results for the society.
Vice Academic Senate, Prof. Suryo Adi Wibowo raised the roles of the Academic Senate, which secures, maintains and establishes norms and ethics of the campus community. "The Academic Senate is like the heart of IPB, but it is not separated from the outside world, so the Academic Senate often provides input in order to maintain the integrity of IPB”. According to him, the innovations generated by IPB will always be connected to the principles of independency, justice and autonomy. "This means that we have entered a new era, which is a continuation of the concept of the green revolution once offered by IPB. Such concept of paradigm is a form of IPB responsibility towards the development of national agriculture in the current era", said Prof. Suryo. Head of the IPB Council of Professors, Prof. Endang Suhendang added that the latest paradigm concept marks a new era of agriculture, and more properly called the sustainable green revolution. The event which was attended by all the Vice Rectors and deans of Faculties at IPB was moderated by IPB Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation, Dr. Anas Miftah Fauzi. (Mtd)
