Training Program for Livestock-based Food Processing to Empower Rural Community of Around Campus

Student Association of Animal Production (Himaproter) Faculty of Animal Husbandry  in cooperation with the Institute for Research and Community Service, Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM-IPB) organized the Training Program on the " Livestock – based  Food Processing" on 15 October 2011. The training program was carried out by  the Department of  Livestock Product Technology of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, under the supervision of qualified lecturer in its related  field. The training was attended by representatives of 27 PKK of 14 Villages around the  Campus under the  Patronage LPPM IPB.

In her  remarks,  the Head of Livestock Product Technology of the Department of Production Science and Technology, Dr. Ir. Ruth Rarah Adjie Maheswari, DEA, explained that the training program was consisted of  several food products processing  ranging from the manufacture of processed meat products which is  commonly known as the meatballs, up to the manufacture of various nuggets and pasteurized – milk with various flavors. In addition to the processed of  pasteurized-milk, the participants were also trained to pack the milk products ready for sale. Most participants were very enthusiastic in attending the course, as  most of them do not know about how to make meatballs, nuggets and milk pasteurization various taste is good and right. So we as members of the organizing  committee were very  proud to share the knowledge we have learned both theoretically and through the practical works. It was expected that at the end  the participants were  expected to know and understand the right methods  of handling and processing of meat and milk, as how to improve the tasteful products  without reducing the nutritional value. The most important of all, they were expected to widene their knowledge especially to understand that the world of farming is not as narrow as they have realized. (Wied).
