How to Develop Marine and Fishery-Based Economy on Minneapolitan Region?
In the framework of Marine and Fishery- Based Economic Development, Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of IPB in cooperation with the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries, Ministry of Marine and Fisheries, the Economic Division of Coordinating Ministry and the Partnership Communication Forum of Capture Fishery held a National Seminar titled "Development of Marine-Based Economy and Fisheries in Minneapolitan Region "at IPB International Convention Center, Bogor, (18/10).
The development of marine-based economy will be translated to a sustainable environment-based program in the Minneapolitan region. Director General of Capture Fisheries, Dr. Ir Dedi Sutisna H, MS said that Minneapolitan region is the concept of marine and fishery development based on regional economic management with the driving sector of fishery and is expected to improve the welfare of fishermen and coastal communities.
Further, it is said that for the purpose of this region development, groups of fishermen who can not afford to do fishing and fish farming will be given a direct aid amounting to 100 million by the government for each group of fishermen. Currently, there are some 1200 groups of fishermen throughout Indonesia who will be given assistance by the government.
In addition, he emphasizes that from 2011 through 2012 there are 19 regions spread across Indonesia who become models of Minneapolitan development. Supports from various sectors are essential in creating a Minneapolitan region.
Ir. Emilia Suhaemi, MM, Assistant Deputy (Asdep) for the Division of Productivity and Quality in the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small-Medium Businesses of RI added some recommendations for the poverty alleviation among fishermen in Minneapolitan: the need for guidelines or policies among others for the formulation of a model policy and shopping centers to generate a track record, the need for programs that bring a fishing community closer to productive resources such as capital, technology, management, information and marketing, and the need for institutional strengthening among fishing communities through cooperatives and groups of fishermen.
