Si Nanjung, The Winner of the Pelung Chicken Contest at Bogor Agricultural University
Pelung, is the name of a chicken owned by Cintami from Tangerang. This cock won the chicken pelung contest on Indonesia Local Poultry Festival held by the Student Association of Animal Production (Himpunan Mahasiswa Produksi Ternak – Himaproter) Faculty of Animal Husbandry – Bogor Agricultural University, in Dramaga, at 24 September 2011.
As the winner, the owner of the cock, Cintami, was awarded the trophy, certificate and the development funds by the organizing committee. Cintami’ cock successfully defeated the last year winner, namely “Si Malam” pelung chicken. The second and the third winners, were Semar owned by Idir from Sukabumi, and “Bintang Kejora” owned by Didi from Bogor.
This Pelung chicken festival was participated by about 200 participants, they are members of the Association of Breeders and Lovers Chicken Pelung (Himpunan Peternak dan Pecinta Ayam Pelung – Hipapi) throughout Indonesia. Judgment for this festival was based on the three categories namely, sound, weight and performance.
This festival was part of series of the Indonesia Local Poultry Festival programs held by Himaproter Indonesia. To begin the Series, the seminar on Local Poultry of Indonesia was organized a few days earlier.
"The objectives of the Festval were to introduce and to preserve the local poultry of Indonesia, as people today do not aware how to rais and preserve local poultry," said Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Ahmad Ubaidillah. He informed that the contest was already set routinely every year by Himaproter, Faculty of Animal Husbandry – Bogor Agricultural University. This year is the fourth for its kind. (Wied)
