IPB Graduation Ceremony Going Along with Achievements
The graduation ceremony this time coincided with the commemoration of the 48th Anniversary of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) with the theme "IPB Innovation towards a New Era of Indonesian Agriculture”. IPB considers innovation a very important part of realizing the new era of agriculture. "That is the agriculture that produces not only sufficient quantities of quality products, but also more environmentally friendly agriculture and can lead to the welfare of farmers," said Rector of IPB, Prof. Herry Suhardiyanto in the Open Session of IPB Graduation Ceremony and Certificate Awarding of Phase I, Academic Year 2011/2012, on Wednesday (21/9).
The theme is selected as an affirmation that the IPB for the last few years has been the most innovative university in Indonesia for the results of research and technology development. At least, according to the records of the Ministry of Research and Technology and Business Innovation Center, in the selection programs of 100, 101, 102 and 103 Most Prospective Innovation Works of 2008-2011, IPB is recorded four years in a row, always dominating the selection results. In the selection of 103 most prospective Innovation of 2011, Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), 35 innovations were the works of professors and researchers from IPB. The year 2010 was very phenomenal because of the 102 Most Prospective Indonesian Innovative Works, 49 inventions (or almost 50%) were the works by IPB lecturers. In 2009 and in 2008, of 101 and 100 Most Prospective Indonesian Innovative Works, respectively 24 and 21 works came from IPB professors and researchers. "This competition is very tight because thousands of works took part in it, from various agencies across Indonesia," said Rector.
IPB keep improving itself not for the pursuit of ranking only, but rather focusing more on the substance of the assessment criteria for international ranking by the various agencies, especially on improving the quality of research and international scientific publications. "For example, based on the research agenda, 324-449 researches by IPB conducted in 2009-2010 covered the following fields: 52-61 percent for food research, 8-9 percent for energy sector, 20 – 22 percent for ecology, 8-9 percent for poverty reduction, and 10 percent for other topics," said Rector.
The number of IPB’s international publications indexed by Scopus also shows a significant increase from year to year and has always been part of the four largest state universities in international publications. As an illustration, there are 110 international publications by lecturers in the index in one year. The latest data, up to June 10, 2011, indicates that IPB lecturer’s international publications have reached 41 papers this year. In addition, the number of applications for registration for IPB Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the past three years also showed a significant development. Cumulatively, IPB Granted patents based on the dates of certificates (2008 – 2011) has achieved 29 in numbers.
IPB achievements and internationalization efforts that have been made are, among others, that IPB is currently rated a Five Star Top University based on QS. Star Version in the field of internationalization. IPB is also incorporated in the consortium of US-Indonesia Partnership Programs for Study Abroad (USIPP) consisting of 6 universities in Indonesia and six universities in America to establish academic cooperation and partnership between Indonesia and America. IPB is also incorporated in the consortium Erasmus Mundus Scholarship (Expert Eurasia2 and Asia). In 2011 the IPB students who successfully passed the selection of Eurasia 2 are 7 out of 32 applicants and 6 out of 18 applicants in the Asia Expert selection. IPB is also incorporated in the Six University Initiative Japan Indonesia / SUIJI-Consortium (IPB, UGM, Hasanuddin University, Ehime University, Kochi University, and Kagawa University) to strengthen Indonesia-Japan cooperation in the field of Tropical Agriculture.
