Approximately 13.6 million families do not have houses, 50 % do not get clean water and 45 % do not have good sanitation. Such condition shows that still many Indonesian people have met their basic needs. This was expressed by Dr. Ir Euis Sunarti,  a lecturer of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences,  Faculty of Human Ecology of IPB in the Evening Dialogue of  RRI in Bogor, (28 / 6).

Dr. Euis added that this id only the general picture, not to mention the households in disadvantaged areas and prone-to-disaster areas.

Further, according to Dr. Euis, family security needs to be built as at present many households in Indonesia are unable to empower themselves.

In contrast, there is a very strong competition in the era of globalization, especially in terms of quality Human Resources, and Indonesia is demanded to be able to compete with other countries. Currently Indonesian households are required to improve their working skills.

It is here the importance of the role of government, he emphasized. Dr. Euis said that that there have actually been a lot of government programs related to the poverty alleviation programs launched to the community, but the data shows there is still high level of poverty. Dr. Euis assess that the programs in practice are as yet not effective. (Mtd)
