The traditional arts and games of Nusantara are endangered with extinction. Children today are more likely interested in the modern games which are more practical and challenging, but do not contain effort to conserve the cultural values ??of Nusantara. Thus, this modern games have caused the lost of the values ??of togetherness, mutual help, creativity, family and so on. But it is not too late to anticipate this lost, therefore, it is necessary to promote traditional  games and perform  the values ??of art and culture of Indonesia.

 

To respond such problems, students of Special Program on Ecotourism of the Directorate of  Diploma, Bogor Agricultural University, organized the 2011 National Ecotourism Week. One of the itineraries of the program is the Ecotourism and Nusantara Cultural Festival, and the theme is “Knowing, Love, and Conserve the Cultural and Traditional Games”, which was held at Campus Baranangsiang, on 18 July 2011.

 

The festival was wrapped in such a way, it was started by preforming the traditional cultures of Bogor, it was represented by Angklung Gubrak from Kampung Budaya, Sindang Barang, Tamansari, Bogor. A person of culture of Sindangbarang,  provides advice for the nation and character building in Sundanese.

 

Students of ecotourism performed the  Peacock dance, and then followed by the fashion show of Nusantara costumes. Pantomime, poetry readings which were collaborated with the choir and Nusantara songs were also preformed in the festival.

 

In addition to various arts performance,  the festival also featured dozens of traditional Nusantara games performed by children, such as congklak, Galasin, engklek, engrang, clogs, jump rope, kazoos, yo-yo, panggal and so forth.

 

In the festival, traditional drama was played and variety of booths displaying various kinds of souvenirs and games instruments  from various areas of Nusantara were exhibited.

 

The Coordinator of the Ecotourism Program, Ms. Helianti Dewi, stated that this activity was organized for the appreciation, the awareness and to love the diversity of Nusantara cultures. "I expect that the  activity will contribute significantly for the development of national ecotourism," she added.

 

Ecotourism Week on "Indonesia As the World Tourism Main Destinations" will organize a series of activities that include, Seminar on Ecotourism, IInd Congress of Ecotourism Alumni Association, the Graduation for Ecotourism Students of 45 batch, and National Congress of the Association of Tourism Student which will be held in Gunung Walat Forest Education, Sukabumi.
