The many and diverse women organizations in West Java become one of the strengths in supporting the implementation of gender mainstreaming (PUG) in West Java. They have a dependable managing personnel and a very large number of members.

These various women organizations facilitate the delivery of messages of gender equality and justice to society. Some training of the organizations has generated qualified women cadres. Assistance with skills in education, health and economy has an impact on the improved quality of life for women in West Java.

"We really appreciate and thank you for all efforts to provide the best opportunity for the attainment of gender equality and women empowerment in Pasundan West Java that we love," said Head of Sub-Division of Population and Health, Regional Development Planning Board (Bappeda) of West Java Province, Drs. Iwan Subhanawan, M. PSSp.

Iwan delivered this in front of the participants of Training of Trainers (ToT) on Gender Mainstreaming and Gender Policy Research Methods, organized by the Division of Women Studies Program of PSP3 LPPM IPB chaired by Dr. Titik Sumarti, at the Center for Nutrition Research and Development, on Jl. Dr. Semeru Bogor, Friday-Saturday (10-11/6).

There were 30 participants coming from the Centers for Women Studies (PSW) of State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta, University of Padjadjaran, Bandung Islamic University (UNISBA), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Bandung, University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (Untirta) Serang Banten, Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), University of Ibn Khaldun (UIKA) Bogor, University of Djuanda (Unida) Bogor, NGOs and gender partners.

On this occasion, Iwan also raised a number of special issues in West Java, such as the high number of trafficking victims, the high number of children breaking the laws, the high number of abandoned children, street children, children as victims of violence, the undeveloped children-friendly cities, and low male participation in family planning.

Another speaker, a member of the gender partner presidium in the Education and Training Agency of Ministry of Interior Affairs, Joseph Supiandi cited the roles of PSW (Women Study Center) in driving the acceleration, including promoting research of gender issues in various development sectors, providing advocacy and facilitation to local governments for the implementation of the Gender Analysis and Gender Responsive Budget (ARG), networking and coordination between PSW and an improvement of HR in the managing personnel and members of PSW.

The event which was officially opened by Secretary of Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB, Dr. Sulistiono also invited keynote speakers such as Prof. Aida Vitayala Hubeis of IPB, Ir. Agustina Erni, M. Sc of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (KPP-PA) RI, and a gender expert from LIPI Dr. Yulfita Rahardjo. (Mtd)
