Undergraduate Study Program
Chemical Engineering
The IPB Chemical Engineering Study Program with concentrations in Food Engineering and Bioprocess Engineering prepares its graduates to have unique scientific competencies to be applied in the fields of agriculture, marine and tropical biosciences (biomass-based).
The establishment of the Undergraduate Study Program (S1) in Chemical Engineering at the IPB School of Engineering was motivated by the national and global needs for the development of agriculture, marine and tropical biosciences based on engineering. Chemical engineering is needed in the fields of agro-maritime and tropical biosciences because its contribution plays an important role in improving production processes, designing and increasing downstreaming, improving product quality, and maintaining environmental sustainability in these sectors.
To that end, the IPB Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Study Program has a mandate to prepare Bachelor of Chemical Engineering graduates who have superior chemical engineering scientific competencies to be applied in the fields of agriculture, marine and tropical biosciences (biomass-based). The core competencies of chemical engineering that graduates will have are related to the design, development, and management of chemical processes involving the transformation of raw materials to produce useful products, including material selection, reactor design, process control, and product purification.
The core competencies of graduates are related to the design, development, and management of chemical processes involving the transformation of raw materials to produce useful products (from laboratory scale to industrial scale), including material selection, reactor design, process control, and purification of agricultural products in a broad sense. This includes the fields of chemical reactor engineering (designing chemical reactors to maximize material conversion and produce desired products), separation and purification (the process of separating components in a mixture, such as distillation, extraction, crystallization, and chromatography), process engineering (designing and managing the entire production process from raw materials to final products), and process control (automatic control to maintain stable and efficient process operating conditions), and downstream processes (purification and processing of products after chemical reactions, including filtration, drying, and formulation).
IPB Chemical Engineering is aimed at producing Bachelor of Chemical Engineering graduates with professional competencies/abilities: able to design, develop, implement, optimize, control, evaluate and improve the performance of the production process sustainably to add value to agro-maritime resources and their derivatives.
Based on the scope of these professional capabilities, the profile of graduates of the IPB Chemical Engineering Study Program includes Engineers in manufacturing companies, Chemical Engineering Consultants, Academics, or Entrepreneurs.
