Strengthening Impactful Research, IPB University Rector Commits to Doubling Research Budget
IPB University held the 2025 Research and Community Service Seminar Week with the theme “Impactful Research and Innovation for Sustainable Agromaritime,” on Tuesday (12/16). This event served as a strategic forum to reinforce the direction of IPB University’s research so that it is not only oriented towards scientific publications but also capable of providing real solutions to national and humanitarian challenges.
IPB University Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet emphasized that IPB University’s research and innovation must move from mere knowledge creation to knowledge impact.
“Amid global challenges such as the food crisis, climate change, and ecosystem degradation, IPB positions itself as an agromaritime university that is academically superior and strong in innovation commercialization and community service,” he said when opening the event online via Zoom Meeting.
This commitment, said Dr Alim, is realized through a plan to double the internal research budget in the coming year. He also encouraged the strengthening of high-impact research through the Agromaritim 5.0 program with leading clusters such as omics, artificial intelligence (AI), sustainability, and social sciences.
The Director of Research and Innovation at IPB University, Prof Sugeng Heri Suseno, presented IPB University’s research achievements throughout 2025. A total of 969 studies received funding, with the largest contribution coming from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) amounting to Rp95,6 billion. Meanwhile, a total of 616 research titles were presented at this year’s Seminar Week.
“The BIMA (Research and Community Service Information Base) scheme still dominates research funding and is the backbone of IPB University’s scientific publication productivity,” he explained.
Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Agromaritime Development, Prof Ernan Rustiadi, said that this forum is an academic tradition at IPB University that has been maintained since the late 1980s.
“This forum plays an important role in building a strong research culture, serving as a means of monitoring and evaluating research achievements, and continuously transferring the research culture from senior researchers to junior researchers,” he said.
Through this activity, IPB University hopes that great ideas, new collaborations, and innovations that have an increasing impact on sustainable agromaritime development will emerge. (Ez) (IAAS/LAN)
