Amid the growing urgency of climate action and sustainable living, IPB University reaffirmed its commitment through the launch of the “Integritas Pakta Bersama (IPB) Berseri.”

IPB Berseri is a core value and sustainability culture. This pact serves as a value guide that will drive the entire academic community toward sustainable behavior change and become the foundation of the Sustainable Solution Champions (SSC) movement.

The Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, officially declared IPB Berseri as a moral commitment of all campus members. “This is a collective commitment, a moral pledge, that everyone at IPB will move as Sustainable Solution Champions with sustainability values at the heart of our culture,” he emphasized during the declaration of IPB Berseri at the IPB Dramaga Campus (11/29).

He stated that IPB University will implement the Sustainable Solution Champions at two levels. “First, the institutional level, where the education curriculum, research, community outreach, management, and infrastructure are directed to focus on sustainability.”

“Second, the individual level, which highlights the importance of every member of IPB University embodying sustainability values,” he explained.

IPB Berseri was inaugurated alongside the 2025 Human Ecology Movement Festival (Gerakoman). This festival serves as the culmination of the Human Ecology course as well as a collaborative space to promote a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Philosophically, IPB Berseri encapsulates seven sustainability values: Happy (Bahagia), Healthy (Sehat), Harmonious (Rukun), Aligned (Selaras), Peaceful (Tentram), Friendly (Ramah), and Beautiful (Indah), which are designed as the new identity of IPB University in the human ecology movement.

According to the Coordinator of the Human Ecology Course, Dr Rina Mardiana, the Gerakoman Festival also reaffirms that sustainability learning should not stop in the classroom but must be realized through collective action.

“Building something impactful is not enough through coursework alone; it requires real action through movement. Therefore, IPB University is promoting the Sustainable Solution Champions movement,” said Dr Rina Mardiana, an SSC initiator and the Coordinator of the Human Ecology Course.

IPB University’s Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs, Prof drh Deni Noviana, also emphasized the importance of internalizing sustainability values.

“One day, we will be able to say proudly that the reduction of carbon emissions on IPB University’s campus is not only the result of technical policies but the product of the collective conscious actions of all campus members. Not because we were ‘forced by rules,’ but because we were guided by values,” he stated.

The Gerakoman event also featured a talk show and the awarding of Sustainable Lifestyle Action (SLA) in five categories: Waste Action, Energy, Healthy Living, Anti-Food Waste, and Transportation. (*/MW/Rz) (IAAS/Ard)
