IPB University has once again achieved outstanding success at the 2025 Bakti Champions Movement event organized by Bakti BCA. The awards were presented at the BCA Learning Institute (11/10–13).

The IPB University team won the title of The 1st Best Bakti Champion of the Year by winning four awards at once: National Summit Delegate, Bakti Champion Ambassador, 1st Place in the Community Empowerment Project, and Best Performance.

One of the delegates, Ivana Destya Treeocta Fernandez, is a student in the Applied Meteorology Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at IPB University.

She was part of Team F2, which designed an Internet of Things (IoT)-based tool to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) namely ‘Roti Maryam Aisyah’ to record sales and inventory.

“This program began with our desire to help MSMEs around the IPB Dramaga Campus. Our partner is a maryam bread seller with hearing impairments. Therefore, we created a simple IoT-based tool to enable automatic and efficient transaction recording,” explained Ivana.

Ivana noted that this innovation process provided valuable lessons, both technically and socially. “We learned sign language to communicate with our partner while also educating them on the importance of financial literacy. We want this program to go beyond the tool itself and focus on human empowerment,” she said.

Her success with the team was inseparable from cross-disciplinary collaboration and the enthusiasm to learn new things. “We all come from different majors. Some are from forestry, fisheries, statistics, and social sciences. We could only work together on weekends and often worked overtime until late at night. We did everything ourselves, from assembling the device to testing it in the field,” she said.

In addition to technological innovation, Ivana believes that her participation in the Bakti BCA program has opened her eyes to the role of students in social development. “This program provides an opportunity to share knowledge while fostering empathy and social leadership,” she said.

For Ivana, this achievement is not the end of her struggle, but the beginning of a broader contribution. She hopes that the simple innovations born from student activities can continue to benefit the surrounding community.

“We want this work to inspire other students to get involved. When we study at university, don’t forget to look around, because there are many potentials and needs that we can help fulfill,” concluded Ivana. (Fj) (IAAS/KQA)
