IPB University Mourns the Passing of a Student Who Was a Participant in the Patriot Expedition in Papua
The entire IPB University family is deeply saddened by the death of Anggit Bima Wicaksana, a student of the Land Resource Management Study Program, who died in a traffic accident while carrying out his duties as a participant in the Patriot Expedition program in Papua. IPB University officially sent off 285 participants of the 21st Patriot Expedition to the Transmigration Area on August 22, 2025.
IPB University Rector, Prof Dr Arif Satria, stated, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Brother Anggit. May his good deeds be accepted by Allah SWT, and may his family be granted patience and fortitude.” Arif further stated that Anggit passed away while striving to fulfill his noble duty of bringing honor to the university through his research and community service contributions, which were relevant, practical, and impactful for national development. “We deeply mourn the loss of a young man like Anggit, who fought for the welfare of the people,” said the Rector.
The Director of Cooperation, Communication, and Marketing at IPB University, Dr Alfian Helmi, said that IPB University had communicated with Anggit’s family and coordinated with relevant parties regarding the repatriation of his remains, including the Ministry of Transmigration, the local government, the Ministry of Transportation, the Indonesian Air Force, and the airline.
He said, “Anggit has been extremely dedicated to this program. Of course, we miss him very much. Hopefully this disaster will not demoralize other participants to continue the struggle to become “patriots” in their respective working areas.”
Helmi added that the Patriot Expedition is a program initiated by the Ministry of Transmigration together with partner universities. The team involves academics, students, researchers, and multidisciplinary practitioners to conduct strategic studies in transmigration areas.
“IPB Patriot Expedition successfully involved 57 Lecturers and Education Personnel of IPB University, 135 students and 93 Alumni. All of these participants were deployed to 21 provinces, spread across 34 regencies or cities, in 36 transmigration area loci.
Participants will be forged to become agents of change in transmigration areas and ensure that community-based economic transformation can run effectively and sustainably,” he explained.(IAAS/LAN)
