IPB University Launches New Toga Designed by Designer Didiet Maulana

IPB University officially launched the latest toga design designed by renowned Indonesian designer, Didiet Maulana. The introduction of this new toga was carried out in the procession of Graduation Phase VI Academic Year 2024/2025 for Doctoral, Masters, and Bachelor levels. The event was held in Grha Widya Wisuda Building (GWW), Campus of IPB Dramaga (5/12).
Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, introduced the new toga directly to the graduates and invitees.
In his speech, Prof Arif said that this toga will be the official outfit in all IPB University graduation processions in the future. Even so, the new toga cannot be used by graduates at this stage because it is not yet fully available.
“IPB University’s new toga was designed by a famous corporate designer in Indonesia, named Didiet Maulana. This toga will apply to the entire procession and all students,” said Prof Arif.
The series of weaving motifs used in this toga is the result of a long journey that has been traveled for several years. Every detail in the design is proof that nothing is instant – everything goes through a process, complete with ups and downs.
The motifs on the toga are inspired by Indonesian flora. Starting from the roots, stems, leaves, to shoots-all elements of plants have an important role. This philosophy illustrates the process of growing, processing, and developing, as the spirit of the Tridharma of Higher Education which is the basis for the development of higher education in Indonesia.
One of the motifs also symbolizes unity and collaboration, reflecting the importance of togetherness in building a complete and inclusive higher education.
Not only in the motifs, cultural elements are also reflected through the silhouette and shape of the toga. The toga as the main visual element is inspired by the elegance and luxury of Indonesian culture – a country rich with 17.000 islands and diverse regional languages. This diversity is not only a wealth, but also a unifying force.
“Our diversity is our strength. Our differences are our strength. And that’s what will happen when you all go into the community,” said Didiet, who was also present at IPB University’s graduation today.
More than just a uniform, IPB University’s new toga is expected to be a prayer that accompanies graduates on their journey to serve the community. A symbol of dreams, intentions, and good spirits that radiate, united in each thread.
