Prepared to Welcome New Students in 2025, IPB University Opens Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Study Programs

Siap Sambut Mahasiswa Baru Tahun 2025, IPB University Buka Program Studi Teknik Kimia dan Teknik Mesin
Pengumuman

IPB University through the School of Engineering officially opened two new study programs, namely Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Both study programs are ready to accept new students for the academic year 2025/2026 through the IPB University Independent Selection (SM-IPB) which is opened from May 9 to July 3, 2025.

A total of 60 new student seats are prepared for each of the Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Study Programs through the SM-IPB route in 2025. The total admission quota for these two new study programs reaches 120 students.

IPB University’s School of Engineering now houses six undergraduate study programs, namely Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Agricultural Industrial Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

The Temporary person in charge (PJs) Dean of the School of Engineering of IPB University, Prof Slamet Budijanto, said that the presence of these two new study programs was part of the academic transformation of IPB University in strengthening engineering and engineering competencies needed by the nation in the era of technology and innovation-based industries.

“With the presence of Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, we want to complete the spectrum of engineering science at IPB University. The addition of this study program is a step to produce reliable engineers who are able to contribute widely in the development of agriculture, agromaritime, and tropical biosciences,” said Prof Slamet on live Instagram @ipbofficial.

Prof Slamet added that his office has prepared modern facilities such as teaching laboratories, computer laboratories totaling around 100 computer units for technical drawing and computing purposes. “We are also developing other supporting facilities to ensure the learning process runs optimally,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Chemical Engineering Study Program, Dr Nanik Purwanti, explained that chemical engineering is a discipline that combines engineering principles and basic sciences such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology to design, process, and optimize the processes of converting materials into products that are more economically and functionally valuable.

“The difference is quite fundamental. Chemistry study program focuses on the interaction of substances at the molecular level, while Chemical Engineering study program is a multidisciplinary field that includes learning chemistry and other basic sciences used to design, operate, and optimize industrial processes efficiently and safely,” she said.

Dr Nanik also emphasized the mastery of basic sciences for prospective Chemical Engineering students. “Mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology or what we call the ‘bio mafia’ are the main holdings in Chemical Engineering learning. About 20 percent of the total semester credit units (SKS) that must be taken by students come from these basic science courses,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Mechanical Engineering Study Program of IPB University, Dr Obie Farobie explained that mechanical engineering is a field that studies the design and analysis of mechanical systems.

“But at IPB University, we give a distinctive touch. This curriculum includes learning the basics of engineering science, such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and engineering physics, and is directed at the application of technology in strategic sectors, including agriculture, marine, and fisheries,” he said.

Regarding the curriculum, Dr Obie explained, “Our curriculum is designed to produce graduates who are able to design and analyze mechanical systems and renewable energy systems that support the agromaritime industry sector. This is the main differentiator of Mechanical Engineering at IPB University compared to mechanical engineering at other campuses,” he said. (dr) (IAAS/PRP)
