Synergy Between IPB University and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Providing Scholarships for Students

In an effort to provide access to quality higher education and as a strategic step to reduce poverty in the medium term, IPB University and the Social Security Administering Body for Employment (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The MoU signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the Soft Launching event of Sentra Cipta Mandiri (SCM), witnessed by the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Dr (Hc) Muhaimin Iskandar, in Sukasari, East Bogor (5/5).
On this occasion, IPB University and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan committed to collaborating in the three core functions of higher education, which include education, research, and community service.
Prof Arif Satria, Rector of IPB University, stated that the collaboration began with a scholarship program from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan for 12 IPB University students.
“The best way to overcome poverty is by ensuring access to higher education,” emphasized Prof Arif Satria.
Prof Arif added that around 30 percent of IPB University students currently come from underprivileged backgrounds and need scholarships.
“This collaboration with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is very important for us to ensure the continuity of study for the scholarship recipients,” he said.
Furthermore, he revealed that the collaboration is not limited to undergraduate (Bachelor’s) scholarships. IPB University and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan are also exploring a double degree program with KU Leuven, Belgium, and are currently designing special programs for Master’s and Doctoral levels for BPJS Ketenagakerjaan beneficiaries.
Pramudya Iriawan Buntoro, Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, explained that the data of prospective scholarship recipients is obtained and verified through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan records and the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP).
“This is part of what we are trying to build to ensure every scholarship recipient receives a quality education,” he said.
Pramudya affirmed that this program aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision of strengthening Indonesia’s human resources for the future.
The scholarship amount provided is IDR 60 million per student for a four-year study period. However, Pramudya encouraged recipients to complete their studies more quickly so they can contribute to society as soon as possible.
“It is hoped that the collaboration between IPB University and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan will not remain a standalone initiative, but also inspire other universities to take part in providing quality education access for underprivileged communities,” he concluded. (AS) (IAAS/PRP)
