Responding to Farmers’ Problems, IPB University Students Socialize Pest Control and Digitani Application

IPB University’s Innovation Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) students conducted a socialization of stem borer and rat pest control and the introduction of the Digitani application to farmer groups in Mekarjati Village, Karawang, West Java. The event was attended by a number of local farmer group members and representatives from the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of Agriculture. The event was enthusiastically welcomed by the participants who belong to the farmer groups.

Coordinator of KKNT Inovasi IPB University in Mekarjati Village, he said, “This activity aims to provide knowledge and education to farmer groups in dealing with the problem of rat pests and stem borers that often harm their crops.” 

In this session, KKNT Innovation IPB University students explained various methods of controlling rat pests and stem borers ranging from prevention techniques, mechanical control, to the use of environmentally friendly pesticides.

“We also introduced the IPB Digitani application. This application is a technological innovation developed by IPB University to help farmers overcome various problems they face while farming,” he explained. 

IPB Digitani has various features that can be used by farmers to submit problems regarding agriculture that they are experiencing. Not only in agriculture, the information available in IPB Digitani also covers animal husbandry, fisheries, and forestry. 

“With the IPB Digitani application, it is hoped that farmers can increase the productivity and quality of their agricultural products,” he said.

According to him, the farmer group members were very enthusiastic and actively participated in the discussion and question and answer session. They conveyed various experiences and challenges faced in managing agriculture, and provided very valuable input for KKNT Innovation IPB University students. 

“This socialization activity is expected to help farmer groups in Mekarjati Village to be better prepared and able to overcome various challenges in agriculture and utilize technology to improve their welfare,” he concluded. (*/Rz) (IAAS/HRD)
