The Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) Innovation Team from IPB University implemented the Pine Planting Movement (Genara) and Coastal Clean Up program at Karangsong Beach, Indramayu District, West Java. Genara is an initial step to preserve the environment and an effort to promote reforestation and greening around Karangsong Beach.

This activity involved sixth-grade students from SDN 2 Karangsong. Handi Mian, the Secretary of Karangsong Village, stated that the village fully supports this activity. “Karangsong Beach itself remains one of the tourist beaches offering its beauty. However, the current condition of the beach is quite barren, so it is hoped that planting pines will provide shade and enhance the beach’s aesthetics,” he said.

Additionally, Sofian, a representative from the Water Police Unit (Satpolair) of Indramayu District, mentioned that during the activity, Satpolair would carry out security and supervision, especially for the students of SDN 2 Karangsong.

“The Environmental Agency (DLH) of Indramayu District has provided 50 pine tree seedlings and trash bins that will be placed at various points around Karangsong Beach. I hope this activity can increase children’s awareness about the importance of caring for the environment,” said Alfiyanto Firdaus, a KKNT Innovation student from Karangsong Village.

“The direct action or practice is expected to make students aware of the importance of the environment, starting from small things like disposing of trash properly,” said Asep, the sixth-grade teacher at SDN 2 Karangsong.

Students from SDN 2 Karangsong expressed that learning outdoors is very enjoyable. The beach clean-up focused on collecting inorganic waste, which was gathered in trash bags. To ensure supervision, 45 students were divided into five teams, each overseen by a member of the KKNT Innovation Team from IPB University in Karangsong Village. (*/LP/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
