CTSS IPB University Launches e-Encyclopedia of Local Wisdom of the Archipelago
Center for Transdisciplinary and Sustainability Sciences (CTSS) IPB University recently launched a digital encyclopedia called Encyclopedia of Local/Traditional Wisdom of the Archipelago. This encyclopedia can be accessed via the https://ctss.ipb.ac.id/ensiklopedia-kearifan-lokal/ page.
As the name implies, this encyclopedia seeks to explore, discover, elevate and document local or traditional wisdom to be combined with modern knowledge to produce new knowledge. Through this effort, it is hoped that new knowledge can be found that can be a solution to the climate crisis, food crisis, social and economic crisis and can be a solution to the sustainability of life.
This encyclopedia will provide various information, such as presenting a map of the location of every region in Indonesia which contains local or traditional wisdom. On the map there will be titles of local or traditional wisdom accompanied by a brief description, illustrated pictures or videos and their location.
The encyclopedia map of local or traditional wisdom is designed interactively, so that readers and the public can add local or traditional wisdom in their area directly to the map. Local or traditional wisdom that has been added to the map will be reviewed by experts in their fields which will then be published.
“This encyclopedia is actually our attempt to collect and then record data as well as create a database, then build an encyclopedia with the intention that this document is a living document that can always be added to and corrected together,” explained Prof Damayanti Buchori, Chair of CTSS IPB University.
Prof Damayanti explained, CTSS IPB University as an institution that encourages the birth of new knowledge in Indonesia related to the environment and the interconnection of human interaction with nature, he sees that the interconnectedness between the past and the future is very important. He wants information that might be scattered everywhere to be collected in the same container.
“This is our initial effort from CTSS IPB University, small steps that we are trying to build together to invite all levels of society in Indonesia. Let’s build this encyclopedia together,” she said.
He hopes that this encyclopedia does not only belong to CTSS IPB University, but becomes common property. “Certainly this first one still has a lot of shortcomings, so please fix it, add to it, correct it, so that this eventually becomes a database and becomes an accurate encyclopedia, which can be developed and utilized together,” she said.
