The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) at IPB University organized an event called C-Day, along with the commencement of the FPIK Anniversary celebration (Dies Natalis) series (13/8). The event was attended by more than 750 individuals, including students, professors, educational staff (tendik), and alumni.

The Dean of FPIK at IPB University, Prof Fredinan Yulianda, expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers who took part in the event. Furthermore, he expressed his hope that C-Day events can continue in the future, providing benefits for all parties involved.

“FPIK at IPB University is committed to carrying out activities related to fisheries and marine sciences, both in education, research, and community service. C-Day and other activities conducted by FPIK at IPB University are expected to benefit society and raise awareness about the importance of preserving fisheries and marine resources,” stated Prof Fredinan.

The activities continued with the C-Track, leading to Lake SDGs for a fish release. The purpose of this activity was to increase the fish population, maintain the sustainability of Lake SDGs ecosystem, and enhance awareness about the importance of preserving aquatic resources. The type of fish released was tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Fish release is one method used to improve aquatic environments affected by eutrophication. Additionally, fish breeding activities can be conducted for conservation and diversification of aquaculture fish.

“The release of fish fry into the SDGs Lake is not only meant to enhance the biodiversity of this water body but also to instill care and knowledge in new FPIK students at IPB University about the significance of preserving biodiversity in any aquatic environment,” explained Prof Fredinan.

The fish release activity was attended by the Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria. The C-Day closing event also featured various activities under the theme of C-Fun to foster camaraderie among the entire FPIK community at IPB University. Alumni and musical acts such as Samudera Rindu with DJs Odhe and DJ Frida also contributed to entertaining the students, professors, and educational staff.

Furthermore, awards were presented to students who participated in C-Day. The event concluded with a communal fish meal sponsored by FINA HA-C in front of the Sumardi Sastrakusumah Auditorium. The C-Day festivities concluded with a talent showcase by the 59th batch of students and an introduction to the ponds within the FPIK IPB University environment, emphasizing spirit, unity, and togetherness.

This moment marked the beginning of the 60th Anniversary Celebration of FPIK IPB University. The event aims to keep the FPIK community in high spirits and encourage collaboration to fulfill IPB University’s goal of producing techno-sociopreneur graduates. (*/Rz) (IAAS/DSR)
