IPB Students Win the Marine Infrastructure Photography Competition
An achievement that is worth to be proud of was achieved by an IPB University Student, Muhammad Iqbal Muzakki. A student of the Department of Industrial Technology of Agriculture (TIN), Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta) IPB won 3rd place in a Photography Competition at the National Level in the Indonesia Ocean Expo (IOE) held by the Student Association of Ocean Engineering Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) in February 2019. The Student Association held the event in collaboration with the Society of Petroleum Engineers. The theme of this competition was portrait of marine infrastructure. Photo by Iqbal entitled ‘Development Executive Pier Bakauheni Port to Increase Mobility and Marine Transportation Security’ stole the attention of the jury.
“At first I wanted to join this contest because the essay questions were in accordance and I’ve already been taking photos that fit the theme of the competition. This photo leads to the landscape and architecture. This portrait was taken at the ship in the port of Bakauheni. This port connects the District of Bakauheni by Bantam, “said the member of the Forum for Scientific Studies (Forces) IPB.
The obstacles faced by Iqbal during the competition was in the process of the essays. “I am more familiar with photography competitions than essay competitions, so I wasn’t accustomed to it yet. When I was taking the pictures, there were several times shocks happened in the vessel so that made it hard to shoot the pictures,” added Iqbal. Photo editing also takes a few days and revisions.
Iqbal explained that the focus of the picture is not the ship, but to the building behind the boat like a crane and a physical symbol of the province of Lampung. “The composition of this photo fit because this ship is between two cranes,” said Iqbal. There are four events held at the IOE in 2019, namely Pre-Event, Competition, Seminar and Expo. The results are displayed in an exhibition of photography finalist event IOE in 2019.
Looking ahead Iqbal hopes to participate in a prestigious photography competition, Sony World Photography. This competition was the first competition after entering four times in photography competitons. Besides having interest in photography, the Work Student Creativity Program (PKM) initiated by Iqbal successfully got funded this year. Iqbal also had a lab assistant at one of the subjects in the TIN IPB. (AVR)
