IPB Students Win the National Quality Engineering Competition Champion
The proud achievement was successfully achieved by students of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) in the National Level Quality Engineering Competition (KRKTN) 2018.
This competition is an event held by the Quality Engineering Laboratory of the Industrial Engineering Department, Trisakti University (24-25/10). After going through various stages of selection, this team of IPB students won Second Place in this competition.
The IPB team consisted of three students from the AgroIndustrial Technology Department, namely: Atsirudy Wibowo, Dwiky Aji Kurniawan and Nova Rizki Anggraini. This competition is an annual prestigious event and is in demand by students, especially those from the Industrial Engineering Department. Because it does not originate from background engineering, the strategy undertaken is preparation for learning materials related to data mining, quality engineering, use of software such as Minitab, Weka, and Rstudio.
They have to compete with dozens of teams from other universities in Indonesia.
This competition begins with the stage 1 preliminary stage where participants answer 80 multiple choice questions related to concepts and calculations for two hours. Furthermore, in the preliminary stage II, participants were faced with an understanding of case studies as well as calculations and interpretations of Minilab and Weka/R. The semi-final round is in the form of a quiz and is selected for up to 5 teams. Continuing in the last stage is the completion of the case study using Minitab and Weka/R as well as the presentation of the results of the settlement in front of a number of judges. The jury came from lecturers from universities and prominent institutions in Indonesia, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Santosa, M.Sc, Ph.D. (Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology), Prof. Dr. Ir. Dradjad Irianto (Bandung Institute of Technology), Prof. Ir. Isti Surjandari, Ph.D. (University of Indonesia), Dr. Ir. Triwulandari S.D., MM (Trisakti University), Dr. Eng. Ir. Taufik Djatna, M.Sc (Bogor Agricultural Institute), Prof. Ir. Syamsir Abduh, Ph.D. (Indonesian Standardization Society), Indryadi Hardi ST, MT, Deputy for National Standardization Information and Socialization (BSN), and company practitioners.
"Initially in the preliminary round, we did not enter in the top ten. After that, we immediately make a strategy on how to get away in the next stage. We were initially layman with quality control because in the Department of Agricultural Industry Technology IPB was focused on the process field.
"Not a few accompanying lecturers from other universities did not expect IPB to join this competition. Thanks to guidance from Dr. Taufik Djatna and other mentors, during the presentation we understood the data processing and were able to answer critical questions from the judges," said Atsirudy, one IPB delegation in the competition.
After going through various stages of the competition, the IPB team finally won Second Place in this competition. The first winner was won by the University of Parahyangan team and the third place was won by the Trisakti University team.
Atsirudy stressed, "Actually we are inexperienced in this field because we are in the 'agriculture' scope, but that is not a barrier to learning. Lecturers in the Department of Agroindustry Technology of IPB are very competent and can guide us and teach us from the roots. (RYS)
