IPB University Students Participate in Youth Leadership Camp for Climate Crisis Just Energy Transition
IPB University students who are members of the Reforsa Ranger Group took part in the Just Energy Transition Youth Leadership Camp for Climate Crisis (YLCCC) which was held in Butterfly Haven, Subang, West Java (16-19/6). This activity was a training for young Indonesians on climate change organized by The Climate Reality Indonesia in collaboration with Ibeka Farm.
Sapa'at, one of the IPB University students participating in YLCCC said, from this activity he gained new insights. In addition, he also revealed that this activity was a support for his studies at the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), IPB University.
“This YLCCC activity is very useful for me and opens up new perspectives on climate change, a just energy transition and environmental actions that can be done through grassroots activities. Apart from that, this activity also intersects with and supports my studies," said Sapa'at.
Beside Sapa'at, other IPB University students are Naurah Salma, Salamah Zukhrufa Jannah, Risna Oktaviani and Muhammad Rizki Abdurrahman.
The YLCCC Just Energy Transition activity consisted of material presentation and sharing, tracking and observing biodiversity as well as a field trip to the Cintamekar Micro-hydro Power Plant (PLTMH), Subang. The aim of this camp was to increase participants' knowledge of the basics of climate change, equipped them with climate change communication skills through grassroots activity campaigns and built a network of young Indonesians who cared about climate change issues.
The material was delivered by competent speakers, including Hanna Astaranti, Communication and Engagement Specialist, The Climate Reality Project Indonesia, who explained climate. Material on energy was delivered by Ari Wijanarko Adipratomo, Coordinator for Low Carbon Development Initiative (LCDI), material on sustainable energy development by Tri Mumpuni who built power generators in more than 60 remote locations in Indonesia.
"YLCCC 2023 is an activity for young Indonesians who care about climate change. It is hoped that after participating in this activity the participants can expand their network and become agents of change through real environmental action," Stephanie Lintang said, as the organizer.
The Youth Leadership Camp for Climate Crisis Just Energy Transition activity ended with project presentations by each group as an implementation of the knowledge that had been obtained through environmental action plans. (*/Rz) (IAAS/SHY)
