SV IPB University Students Socialize the Importance of Conservation Spirits from an Early Age
IPB University Vocational School (SV) students from the Environmental Engineering and Management Study Program (Prodi) carry out community service, which is packaged through the socialization of Planting the Spirit of Animal Conservation to students of the State Elementary School (SDN) of Babakan. This activity involved a number of Batch 58 SV IPB University students, namely M Aqmar Firdaus, Nur Balqis, M Hilmi Hanafi, Christina Napitupulu, and Nuzul Laily.
"This activity is a form of implementing the animal conservation movement in elementary schools with the aim of instilling a conservation spirit in students from an early age. It is hoped that with this activity, the children of SDN Babakan can increase their awareness of animals and imply it in everyday life," said M Aqmar Firdaus, a student at SV IPB University.
Considering that the target audience for socialization is children, this socialization activity on animal conservation is packaged in such a way as to make it interesting. This was done so that students could understand the material presented.
"As for some of the material presented such as getting to know food, animal behavior, and habitat. Then an explanation was given regarding examples of caring attitudes towards animals, starting from simple things like feeding cats, not killing ants, and not confining or torturing animals," he stated.
Another material, he continued, was the introduction of endemic animals to Indonesia. This is done to raise awareness among students about the importance of knowing and preserving animals. "Of course, the final output of this activity is so that they can implement the importance of animal conservation from an early age," he said.
Aqmar also added, another activity of this socialization is doing games that are still related to animals. This effort is made so that students can indirectly get to know more animals.
"This game succeeded in increasing the enthusiasm of students. We also have a photo competition to find the best cat food. We supply them with cat food. Later, this feed will be given to the cats they meet on the street or around their homes," he said.
The activity was warmly welcomed by the teachers and students of SDN Babakan. Siti Nurbaetillah, SPd as the Class 5 form teacher at SDN Babakan, conveyed the importance of instilling a caring attitude towards animals. According to her, this is a form of loving and caring for fellow creatures of God.
"Nowadays, there are often many actions that do not reflect an attitude of caring for animals. Consequently, instilling concern for animals and its implementation is important from an early age," she mentioned. (*/Rz) (IAAS/SNI)
