IPB University and Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e Establish Collaboration
IPB University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e (UNTL), Timor Leste. Collaboration is carried out in the fields of agriculture and business. The signing was held in the Chancellor's Meeting Room 1, Andi Hakim Nasoetion Building IPB University, (8/5).
In his remarks, the Rector of IPB University Prof Arif Satria mentioned one of the business units as well as innovation owned by IPB University, namely the Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP).
"We have ATP as a place for business and innovation that can embrace farmers in the environment around the campus. Later these agricultural products will be distributed to various marketplaces in Jabodetabek," said Prof Arif.
He continued that IPB University could encourage farmers to develop their business, such as the production of potential vegetable seeds. Thus, farmers can have the maximum profit in selling these products.
"Currently our products have been marketed to 54 supermarkets in Jabodetabek. This shows that universities can empower and embrace the community, especially farmers, to participate in developing business and innovation," he said.
The Rector of UNTL, Prof Dr Joao Soares Martins, revealed that he was very pleased to be able to carry out the collaboration with IPB University.
"I am very happy to be able to visit IPB University and sign the MoU. This is a very good moment so that we can establish cooperation. Later this collaboration will also be expanded bilaterally between UNTL and IPB University," he said.
Furthermore, he said there were many things that UNTL needed to learn from IPB University. His party was very interested in the progress of IPB University's research where these innovations had been transformed into products.
"We will learn how to transform the results of scientific research into society. I am very happy to see extraordinary agribusiness initiatives and impressed with the progress of IPB University, which inspired us to study here," he concluded.
The signing of the MoU was followed by discussions regarding the collaboration and innovation that will be carried out as well as visits to various other facilities such as the IPB Future Museum and Gallery. (Lp/Rz) (IAAS/Res)
