Department of PSP FPIK IPB University Introduced Scientific Publications in the Field of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to SUPM Tegal
The Department of Aquatic Resources Management (PSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University has conducted an exploring the Sekolah Usaha Perikanan Menengah (SUPM) Tegal as part of the lecturer community service program. In this activity a workshop was held entitled 'Strengthening Research and Scientific Publication in the Maritime and Fisheries Sector'.
On this occasion, SUPM Tegal was introduced to scientific publications in the field of fisheries that have been managed by the PSP IPB University Department, namely the Marine Fisheries Journal with a Sinta index and the Albacore Journal with a Sinta 4 index. Its is expected that both journals can become one of the publishers that can collaborate with SUPM Tegal in preparing to improve the quality of human resources (HR) at SUPM Tegal.
"The lack of information regarding scientific publications and the large number of predatory journals promising instant publication are barriers for lecturers and prospective lecturers at SUPM Tegal," said Head of the PSP IPB University Department, Dr Sugeng Hari Wisudo. He urged every lecturer to be able to examine journals as prospective publishers before they publish journals.
Musrifin, SPi, MSi as Head of SUPM stated, SUPM Tegal is currently at the stage of preparing institutions and human resources in an effort to change the name of the institution to Ocean Institute of Indonesia – Politeknik Perikanan Kelautan AUP Tegal.
"SUPM Tegal is also experiencing problems in the preparation of teacher-prospective lecturers in their equalization to become lecturers and institutional preparation in improving the quality of teachers. The majority of SUPM educators/teachers have never done a scientific publication. Meanwhile, the last level of education of teaching staff is at the master's degree level," he added.
This workshop discussed the functional positions of lecturers and the independent accreditation of a higher education institution. This discussion is important as an explanation of the stages of preparing for institutional change, both in terms of quality standards in higher education and the resources of teaching staff.
Professor of IPB University, Prof Mohammad Imron reminded that the tridarma of higher education is the main thing that needs to be prepared in the equalization of teachers to lecturers. The Tridarma must be carried out as a whole, both in education, research and service.
“Preparation of quality standards must also be adjusted to the achievement targets proposed by the institution. In this case SUPM Tegal must design institutional quality standards that can be achieved by SUPM by following the national quality standards set by the National Higher Education Standards (SN Dikti)," he added.
Head of the Marine Fisheries Technology Study Program (TPL) Postgraduate School of IPB University, Dr Yopi Novita said that lecturers and teacher-prospective lecturers must improve their quality through increased research and scientific publications and assisted with adequate quality human resources. "The quality of human resources can be improved through higher education, namely at the doctoral level," he explained.
The activity was also attended by lecturers, teacher-prospective lecturers and cadets from SUPM Tegal and several lecturers from the PSP Department of IPB University, including Prof Eko Sri Wiyono, Dr Budhi Hascaryo Iskandar, Dr Ronny Irawan Wahju, Dwi Putra Yuwandana, MSi and Tri Nanda Citra Bangun, MSi.
