As a form of integration of courses with community service activities, the lecturers and the students of the Vocational School (SV) IPB University from the Food and Nutrition Service Industry Management Study Program (MIJMG) held nutrition counseling for pregnant women in Cibitung Wetan Village, not yet this long. In this activity, lecturers and students of SV IPB University introduced stunting, healthy dietary habits, and the characteristics of healthy pregnant women.

Rosyda Dianah, SKM, MKM, a lecturer at the Vocational School of IPB University, said the counseling aims to provide awareness to prospective mothers and pregnant women about the causes of stunting by improving diet. Therefore, it is hoped that this can reduce the number of stunting sufferers in Cibitung Wetan Village.

On that occasion, Rosyda Dianah, SKM, MKM explained the importance of improving the diet for expectant mothers and pregnant women. One step to improve the diet is by adding nutrients according to the trimester.

"Prospective mothers and pregnant women are encouraged to consume blood-boosting tablets to sufficient iron intake to avoid anemia," said the lecturer at the IPB University Vocational School from the MIJMG Study Program.

According to her, in the long-term stunting will have an impact on decreasing cognitive abilities and learning achievement. Stunting can also lower the body's immunity so it is easy to get sick. This condition also triggers a high risk of various diseases such as diabetes, obesity, heart and blood vessel disease, cancer, stroke, and disability in old age.

One of the IPB University SV students, Egidia Oktaviana Firanty explained, pregnant women should limit and avoid preserved foods. Since these foods usually contain less safe food additives.

"Pregnant women are also advised to avoid undercooked meat, eggs, or fish because they can contain bacteria that are harmful to the fetus. Limit coffee, a maximum of two cups of coffee per day, or avoid it altogether. Caffeine in coffee can increase urination which results in dehydration," she explained.

Sabrina, another SV IPB University student, mentioned the characteristics of healthy pregnant women, one of which is nausea and vomiting. Other characteristics are changes in the breast, fetal movements, increased frequency of urination (BAK), and an increasingly sensitive sense of smell.

"The characteristics of an unhealthy pregnant woman are swelling of several parts of the body, lack of appetite, or lack of interest in food and drink. They also often feel tired and irritable, their hair becomes dry and sparse, they fall out easily and lose fat, muscle mass, and body tissue," added Sabrina. (*/Rz) (IAAS/HAP)
