Department of Landscape Architecture IPB University and Chiba University Japan Collaborate to Hold a Summer Course on Indonesian Tropical Landscapes
The Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture IPB University in collaboration with Chiba University Japan held the 1st Summer Course in Indonesia Tropical Landscape program with the theme 'Culture, Biodiversity and Conservation in Indonesia Tropical Landscape', recently.
"This event presents the diversity of the beauty of Indonesia's tropical landscapes, especially West Java to be introduced to international students," explained the Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture of IPB University, Dr Akhmad Arifin Hadi at the Welcome Dinner.
Apart from IPB University students, this summer course was also attended by students from foreign universities including Chiba University Japan, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Southeast University China Taipei, Gyeongsang National University, Jeonbuk National University, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and the University of the Philippines Diliman.
The activity sponsored by The Indonesia Endowment Funds for Education (LPDP) lasted for 9 days with 4 locations visited, namely the IPB University Campus, Bogor Botanical Gardens, Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng, and Tanjung Lesung.
“This activity can increase connections with world-class partner universities. In this summer course program, students take part in a Studium Generale and excursion in the field with a total of 90 active hours, equivalent to 2 semester credit units (credits)," said Dr Akhmad Arifin Hadi.
The Head of the Summer Course Committee, Dr Prita Indah Pratiwi, in the Opening Ceremony, said that through this summer course, students can gain insight and experience. Participants can also get to know and understand local cultural landscapes, biodiversity, and conservation related to theory and practice through excursions in Bogor and its surroundings.
Executing the task (Plt) Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof Suryo Wiyono officially opened The 1st Summer Course in Indonesia Tropical Landscape. Also present were speakers, experts in the field of Landscape Architecture, namely Prof Tatsuaki Kobayashi (Chiba University Japan) Prof Hadi Susilo Arifin, Dr Andi Gunawan, and Dr Bambang Sulistyantara (IPB University).
"This event is important for sharing knowledge, experience, and culture among the participants," said Prof Kobayashi.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Global Connectivity, Collaboration, and Alumni Relations, Prof Iskandar Z. Siregar said, "IPB University needs to maintain relationships with partner universities in terms of student exchanges and create relationships with new international university partners," he explained.
The holding of The 1st Summer Course in Indonesia Tropical Landscape is also a form of support from the Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on the indicators of Sustainable Cities and Communities, Quality Education, and Partnership For The Goals.
