Indonesia is optimistic about hosting the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in 2024. This is evidenced by held of the WWF Kick-Off Meeting at the Jakarta Convention Center, (15-16/3). The event was attended by more than 1,400 participants who came from stakeholders and various environmental stakeholders, especially in water management, including the International Forestry Students’ Association Local Committee (IFSA LC) – IPB University.

The contingent from IFSA LC-IPB is represented by Fatin Hanifah, Shaqila Kalsum, and Puti Mujahida. According to Fatin, the three of them were very happy and enthusiastic about fulfilling WWF’s invitation. “It is hoped that Indonesia being selected as the host for the upcoming WWF will open up opportunities for cooperation between Indonesia and various national and international stakeholders in the water resources management field. In addition to this, it has an economic impact on Indonesia,” said Fatin Hanifah.

On that occasion, the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Ir Joko Widodo in his speech conveyed an important agenda that must be prioritized in implementing WWF 2024. The agenda included efforts to conserve water, availability of clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and disaster mitigation natural disasters such as floods and droughts.

“These agendas must be filled with collaboration, people’s participation and cooperation from various parties, dialogue and partnerships between countries carried out in the spirit of togetherness for the welfare of the world’s people,” said President Jokowi in his speech via video.

President of the World Water Council, Loic Fauchon in the opening ceremony also conveyed an important message that the urgency of the Kick-Off is the momentum to make water an important issue. As a natural resource, water is the only thing that cannot be reproduced, so it is important to maintain the sustainability of water.

“The event which was held for two days with the theme ‘Water for Common Prosperity’ also provided space for discussion, brainstorming, and problem-solving among fellow environmental activists. Not only that, but the banquet served was also very luxurious and classy, thus adding to the enthusiasm of the guests who attended,” concluded Fatin. (PSB/Rz) (IAAS/BLA)
