IPB University Student Commitment to Supervise 3R Waste Management
Hundreds of IPB University students who are representatives of student organizations, level commanders (class leaders), senior residents of the Common First Year Program dormitory, environmental cadres and Institute Ambassadors read declarations containing commitments to protect the environment and invite others to always care in an effort to protect the environment on the campus of IPB University. This declaration was made during the 3R Waste Management (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) Socialization at the Andi Hakim Nasution Auditorium, Dramaga Campus of IPB, Bogor, (01/23).
The Rector of IPB University, Prof. Dr. Arif Satria said, the key to achieving Green Campus 2020 is the togetherness and cooperation of all elements of the IPB University academic community. "Our biggest challenge is to dare to reprimand people when littering. Without building awareness and having agents of change, Green Campus will not be achieved. Efforts to reduce the use of paper waste that have been done are the use of online presence, online correspondence and so on," he explained.
Meanwhile, Vice President of IPB University Students, Maliki Febriantono explained that students are the largest community on the campus of IPB University. Therefore, the impact of their actions, solicitation and commitment to sorting and reducing the use of waste is huge. "Small steps can make a significant difference on campus," said Maliki.
This socialization is presented by the Secretary of the Institute, Dr Ir Aceng Hidayat as the Person in Charge of the Implementation of the Green Campus 2020 which gave a presentation on the processing of waste on campus to the Cikabayan Final Disposal Site.
Dr Aceng explained the purpose of the Green Campus is to bring sustainability and a healthy lifestyle on campus. Indicators of achieving Green Campus include reduced emissions, energy efficiency, zero waste, saving and conserving water, conserving biodiversity and creating a healthy life routinity.
Dr Aceng also explained, in the Green Campus UI Green Metrics ranking for example, assessment factors included indicators of environmental compliance and regulation, management of water resources, energy efficiency and climate change, waste management, transportation, biodiversity and infrastructure.
Regarding waste, Dr Aceng asserted, "IPB University has carried out natural waste processing, one of which is the waste dumped in the biopore infiltration hole. Waste can be produced to something more useful. The Green Campus priority program is 3R waste management. The biggest challenge in running Green Campus is behavior change.
