Dosen Mengabdi IPB University Gives Socialization Exploration of Marine Resources to High School Students in Bogor

Research and community service institutions (LPPM) IPBUniversity was sent the lecturer serves from  department science and marrine technology, faculty of fisheries and marine science (FPIK) IPB University to give socialization to students in several high schools at Bogor. Lecturers sent are Dr Sri Pujiyati, Msi and Ir Endang Sunarwati Srimariana, MSi. The theme in socialization on dosen mengabdi program is “ Exploration of marine resources in support of indonesian maritime affairs” .

Activities carried out in Multimedia room Kornita high school Dramaga, November 21th later is the third activity that held by LPPM IPB University. The activity aims to foster a sense of love for the environment and mantain sustainability especially the sea for high school students. 42 participants attended consists of four high schools at Bogor. They are SMAN 1 Dramaga, SMAN 1 Ciampea, SMAN 1 Cibungbulang and SMA Kornita Dramaga. Each school sends 10 students from XII Science and accompanied by one teacher.

On this occasion, Ir Endang Sunarwati Srimariana, MSi explain about marine environment, marine life and biodiversity, marine bioprospection, sea zone division , nusantara sea topography. She also introduced marine biotas which can be used as a food source, a source of bioactive compounds for the cosmetics industry, food supplement, drugs and renewable energy sources.

That lecturer IPB University revealed, after join this activity is expected students understand about marine environment,marine biodiversity, and prospects for marine life. Then has the desire to protect the environment properly and participate in protecting the marine environment as a place where marine life that has prospects source of bioactive compounds.

The second material was delivered by Dr Sri Pujiyati, Msi that explained about the richness of Indonesia’s marine biological resources, the potential of Indonesian waters as a marine thermal power plant, wave power and sea current power. She also introduced some applications for the use of hydroacoustic equipment like for detect bottom water types, mineral, carbon, and crude oil.

“The hope is to motivate students to love the ocean, protect it for environmental sustainability. And then they are understand about hydroacoustic technology on exploration marine resources. Encourage students to be creative to develop their ability for the  progress of Indonesia. With this activity is also hoped that students can love Indonesia more because it has extraordinary sea wealth,” she said.

Meanwhile the students accompanying the teacher from SMAN 1 Ciampea, Zaimul Ihsany, SPd delivered this activity provides pictures to students about existing study programs in marine department so have a desire to continue to university in that department. With this activity students can find out information on the diversity of marine life, instrumentation in fisheries and participate in maintaining the preservation of the ocean.

This activity closed with distribution of red guava seeds and soursop. There are about 50 seeds that distribution to students who attended this activity. The hope that seeds can be planted and cared for properly by students to preserve the environment. (IAAS/NAS)
