IPB University Placed SLAK Facilitators in Tegal Regency
The Team of Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of IPB University placed the facilitators of the Creative Agro Field Station (SLAK) of LPPM IPB University to Tuwel Village, Bojong District, Tegal Regency. LPPM IPB University Team, Jeffry Setiawan, SSi and Tri Widi Astuti, SPi were received by Darmanto, MSi, Head of Research and Development Division at the Tegal Regency Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), at the Tegal Regency Bappeda Office, Tuesday (12/11).
Jeffry Setiawan said that the SLAK facilitator will be at the location until 31 December 2019. “The plan will be to monitor and evaluate SLAK activities by the leadership of LPPM IPB University to see how far the facilitator can contribute together with the community in Tuwel Village in garlic cultivation activities,” he said .
While the Head of Research and Development Division of Tegal Regency Bappeda, Darmanto, MS said that Bappeda has coordinated with the Head of Tuwel Village regarding SLAK activities. “We appreciate this SLAK activity. We hope that by placing IPB University’s alumi in agricultural production centers, it can provide assistance to farmers, especially garlic farmers because the productivity of garlic in this region is declining. Assistance can be done in terms of cultivation and economic activities, “he said.
On November 13, 2019, the LPPM IPB University Team and SLAK facilitator held a discussion with the Head of Tuwel Village, Saeful. During the meeting, Saeful welcomed the presence of SLAK facilitators stationed in Tuwel Village.
“At present, farmers are constrained by the marketing conditions of garlic whose prices are relatively low on the market because our local garlic competes with imported garlic which is cheaper. “In addition, the garlic that we harvest also has small sizes so that no one wants to accommodate the crop because the size does not meet the grade,” he said.
After the discussion, Saeful then directed the facilitator to stay with a group of farmers who were active in garlic cultivation activities. The hope, the presence of SLAK Facilitator LPPM IPB University in Tegal Regency can help farmers in increasing the productivity of garlic commodities, especially in Tuwel Village, Tegal Regency.
