Atlantic Himasper FPIK IPB Collaborated with LPPM IPB Dig in the Diversity of Situ Leutik
IPB University is well-known as a biodiversity campus. Dramaga’s IPB campus has approximately 250 hectares of green land. Many areas within the campus are important habitat for flora and fauna. Each region has its own unique habitat type. The types of habitats include the Cikabayan Arboretum, Landscape Arboretum, various plant stands along the Cihideung River and the Landscape River, Information Resource Services Lake (LSI), Fisheries Situ, and others.
Various researches have been carried out by environmental activists to record the biological wealth found on the IPB campus. Data obtained by the Student Association of Forest Resources Conservation and Ecotourism, Faculty of Forestry (Himakova Fahutan) IPB noted, there were 173 species of plants, 22 species of mammals, 88 species of birds, 12 species of amphibians, 38 species of reptiles, and 75 species of butterflies. The entire biodiversity that is intravenous is the diversity found in the terrestrial area of the IPB campus.
Inventory habitats are generally in the mainland. Biodiversity in the aquatic environment within the IPB campus has not received attention by environmentalists. One of the most popular marine habitats on the IPB campus is Lake LSI.
The waters within the IPB campus, popularly known as Lake LSI, have their own original names. The area has an original name, Situ Leutik. The mention of the name Lake LSI is due to the location of Situ Leutik which is adjacent to the LSI Building.
M. Sultan Al Riza Ritonga as Chair of the Atlantic Himasper FPIK IPB stated that Situ Leutik was a combination of the Fisheries Situation and LSI Situ. Both of these were separated after the development in IPB. Location of LSI Situ is in a higher part than Fisheries Situ.
“The biodiversity in Situ Leutik is not widely known by students and the surrounding community. Lake LSI biodiversity has not received attention for inventory. So, we initiated biodiversity exploration activities at Lake LSI, Dramaga Campus of IPB, “he said while exploring the Dramaga Campus of IPB, Bogor (16-17 / 03).
According to him, the study of biodiversity or biodiversity in Situ Leutik has never produced optimal output. The overall data collection of flora and fauna in Situ Leutik is not yet fully available. This then sparked the spirit of Atlantic Himasper FPIK IPB to work with the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of IPB in an effort to inventory biodiversity in Situ Leutik.
“This activity has been carried out five times. However, the parameters taken at this time are more comprehensive and the output can be published as a reference in the management of appropriate water areas within Dramaga’s IPB Campus, in particular. The parameters observed were the results of the Atlantic Himasper IPB discussion with the IPB LPPM. These parameters include the conditions of morphometry, bathymetry, mapping, identification of all aquatic biota, and analysis of water quality. Another output will be a book that will be launched in June, precisely on June 5, 2019 on World Environment Day, “added the Sultan.
The Chairperson of the event, Ledy Matmira said that data collection and documentation were the most important things in this activity. It does not stop there, the publication process of this activity, which is in the form of a book, is tangible evidence that can be used as a reference for learning scientific studies in the field of water.
“As a child of the waters, it is our responsibility to contribute to biodiversity assessment activities, especially in the campus itself,” he said (AD / Zul).
