Genus IPB Presents Miss Indonesia
Indonesia is known as a nation that is rich in cultural value. One of the ways of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) students to preserve the cultural diversity was by holding Gebyar Nusantara (Genus). Themed “Anindyawati Budaya Indonesia” which means Extraordinary Beauty of Indonesia, the series of event that had been held since September 2, 2018, successfully showed entertainment and exhibition of Indonesia’s culture to many people, including the students themselves.
Taking place in IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (30/9) from morning until noon, the visitors freely enjoyed the festival of cultural performances, cultural exhibitions, snack festivals, an exhibition of community stands, cultural stands, Indonesia’s culinary and performances of national costumes presented as an illustration of Indonesian charm. In the peak event, the event was even more spectacular with the presence of Miss Indonesia and the performance of “Bandrek Susu”, IPB Rector’s band.
“Gebyar Nusantara is an outstanding annual event, reminding us of the wealth of Indonesia. When we are in other countries, we will realize that Indonesia is very prosperous in terms of culture. Indonesia must rise, showing that it is worthy to strive in the world’s eyes. Enjoy the show,” said IPB Rector, Dr. Arif Satria in his welcoming remark.
There were 21 Regional Student Organizations (Omda) participating in this event. This year’s Genus involved more people compared to it did in the previous year. This was shown by the Children Fashion Show Competition and National Cultural Costume Exhibition in Botani Square Mall. It aimed to grow love towards the culture to the young generation in the modern place like a mall. Besides, the cultural exhibition was also held in Taman Ekspresi, Bogor City, along with the Flash Mob that was also done by the committee with Genus jingle.
Rendy, the Head of Committee of Genus 2018 conveyed his greatest gratitude for the success of Genus 2018. “We managed to hold a carnival outside campus with the purpose of attracting the society. We also succeeded in partnering with more cultural communities like Aksara Sunda, Aksara Budaya, Batik Bekasi Community, and friends from Papua and Banten. These communities become a way for visitors to try making Batik, writing Sundanese and Javanese alphabets, and others,” he said.
Hopefully, in the future Genus could be the annual agenda of IPB. Genus could be the distinct character of IPB, like how ITB had Cultural Market or how other campuses with their own agendas. “I hope Genus can embrace all Omda and become more solid,” Rendy added.
Not only impressing many eyes with the nation’s culture, but this year’s Genus also give appreciation to Omda in many awarding categories. Among them is Omda Bali who became the overall champion with several categories including the best costumes, the best carnival, and the best Omda stand. The East Java Student Association (Imajatim) with delicious food won the culinary contest. Other Omda representatives also received awards in the performance of the Putra and Putri (Son and Daughter). (CN)
