Started from a concern about women’s underestimated role, or women being the second-class human beings, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) students initiated Female in Action (FIA) movement. FIA empowers female students to be contributive with her field of study for the society, in addition to be a wife and a mother. FIA combines online and real-world movements to give significant influence in developing women’s potentials, interests, and talents.

FIA was initiated by Zulfa Fauziah with the help of its co-founder, Salsabila Ariana, and the internal co-founders, Annisa and Iffah Nabila.

“Female students who participate in FIA utilize social media for online training module method. We will also conduct a face-to-face activity to expand our network, done by directly interacting with society,” Zulfa explained.

Shortly, FIA will be introduced to international audiences. This work will be submitted to four international conferences, which are Future Leader Summit 2018 in Thailand, Young Diplomatic Forum in Malaysia and Singapore, Project Innovation for Sustainable World in London, and lastly the International Young Innovation Summit 2018.

Zulfa sets a goal that FIA can be launched in this semester, with female students of batch 2018 as the target audience. “This empowerment will be implemented with intensive training programs and creative education with the basis of education enterteinment arts. For the intensive training, we will focus on improving sociotechnopreneurship aspect for females aged 16-25 years old. Creative education program is a solution for the misperception about genders concept in Indonesia with education-entertainment arts as the basis. It will be done by conducting an art exhibition as an education media which will be entertaining without sacrificing the value being taught. Our advantage in FIA team is that we have a vast network, and that is what we want to share,” she explained.

According to Zulfa, the movement that has been conducted only once in Indonesia is not an action to set aside men’s role. Gender equality is about how women can take part professionally according to her field of study.

Zulfa wants that women can aspire their potentials and contribute to society. Women hold the pivotal role in civilization. If the women are smart, the civilization will also be improved, specificially in terms of child nurturing.

According to Zulfa, even if we have non-academic activities, our academic should not be sacrificed. “In my opinion, I have to have 2 focuses, one is for developing FIA and the other one is my grades, because we can’t expect to invite someone for some purpose if we can’t even do our fundamental tasks,” she said.
