President of NIES Explores Collaboration Again with IPB
President of the Japanese National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Prof. Watanabe Chiho visited Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Prof. Watanabe was accompanied by the Head of Center for Climate Risk and Opportunity Management in Southeast Asia Pacific (CCROM – SEAP) or Center for Climate Risk Management and Opportunities in the Southeast Asia and Pacific Region, Institute for Research and Community Service, Bogor Agricultural Institute (LPPM IPB), Prof. Rizaldi Boer. The team was received by the Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria in his office at the Andi Hakim Nasoetion Rectorate Building, Dramaga IPB Campus.
Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria supports IPB to be part of this collaboration. "We also have a strong commitment to go to IPB Green Campus." The Rector of IPB said that IPB was preparing Green Campus 2020, including hardware technology smart monitoring. Regarding behavior, the Rector of IPB conveyed the importance of strong and supportive awareness because IPB has open access to trade, as well as transportation. The patterns of cooperation will soon be coordinated under the Deputy Chancellor for the IPB Information and System Cooperation.
Prof. Rizaldi Boer added that the CCROM-LPPM-IPB had worked with Japanese NIES with IPB for a long time. "So now it's going to end. Incidentally, the NIES President has changed. So, we want to discuss the possibility of research collaboration with IPB. Right now, we are just talking about climate change. While NIES has many fields of study so that cooperation is expected to be developed not only in the field of climate but also in other fields. "
Prof. Rizaldi added his hope, regarding Prof. Watanabe with the Rector of IPB are both from the field of human ecology, so that in the future his research cooperation will be directed towards this field.
Director of the Center for Social and Environmental Systems Research-NIES, Prof. Fujita Tsuyoshi, who was also present in the assessment of this collaboration, was the person who handled many of the environmental fields that we had done. "More broadly we are also working with the Bogor City government. "His visit is to try to conduct a study related to reducing emissions in order to support the Bogor City government with its green city concept," said Prof. Rizaldi "
According to him, the city is also one of the most abundant air sources in the world, how to develop sustainable urban development patterns. Furthermore, Prof. Rizaldi said, "The cooperation that has been established is that we conduct one of the carbon dioxide monitoring systems at Baranangsiang Campus. We have also installed monitoring tools for energy disposal at several central points in the city of Bogor. The aim is to be able to understand the extent of the actual efficiency of energy use. Then actually the main source of emitters in households and offices. From this activity, we can determine the next strategic steps. Efforts to reduce emissions, save energy and change behavior. When you have talked about behavior change, we are dealing with social aspects. How do we develop a touching campaign system using the results of our observations?"
The results of our observations are very useful also to develop the model. "If the Bogor City Regional Government wants to produce Green City, it is necessary to create a green city concept including aspects of modeling techniques and transportation simulation. Policies that must be developed in the future are commercial, such as hospitality, so that they can develop environmentally friendly technologies. That can be done by trial with research that has been done with CCROM LPPM IPB. We have also helped drafting the Bogor City regional development plan to incorporate the green city concept elements into the Bogor City government in its Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (DMR)
