IPB Host Simuliidae Asia International Symposium and National Veterinary Parasitology
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) for the first time hosted the Simuliidae Asia International Symposium and National Parasitology which held every two years. The first symposium was held in Thailand in 2016 with participants coming from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
For this symposium, 55 participants from lecturers and researchers attended the symposium held in the Seminar Room of the Educational Animal Hospital of IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor on 23-24 July 2018. There were 13 participants from Indonesia, 8 people from Malaysia and 34 people come from Thailand.
This activity aims to exchange information on parasitic and Simuliidae problems in animals in the home country and submit a number of studies that have been developed. The expected output is that participants know the development of parasitology in animals and can develop other research to overcome the problems that exist in animals. In addition, the holding of this event can attract collaboration between participants from several countries.
"Initially this event separated into two categories namely Simuliidae Asia and National Veterinary Parasitology. Simuliidae is the name of a family of insects that act as a disease vector. The Simuliidae Asia topic consists of only thirteen participants from Indonesia and Simuliidae is a specific science, not many experts in this field. Therefore, this symposium was merged into Simuliidae Asia and National Veterinary Parasitology so that the number of participants became large and the scope became broad, "said the Chairperson of the International Symposium, Prof. Dr. drh. Upik Kesumawati Hadi.
Meanwhile Prof. Drh. Srihadi Agungpriyono, Ph.D., PAVet.K as the Dean of FKH IPB welcomed this activity and hope all participants get valuable knowledge from this activity.
The symposium was on the theme of "Biodiversity from Vectors and Animal Parasitology Diseases", presenting six speakers. The first day of the event there were three speakers who delivered the material among others Prof. Peter H. Adler of Clemson University who is one of the world's Simuliidae Experts, Prof. Dr. drh. Lucia Tri Suwanti from the Department of Veterinary Parasitology, Airlangga University, and Drh. Fadjar Satrija, MSc, PhD. from the Department of Animal Diseases and Veterinary Public Health, Bogor Agricultural Institute. (flw)
