Puspiptek and IPB Work Together to Create Reliable Technopreneur Candidates
The Center for Science and Technology (Puspiptek), The Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education for The Republic of Indonesia (Kemenristekdikti RI) and Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) collaborated in holding an Agritechnopreneur Boothcamp to create reliable technopreneur candidates. The signatories of this collaboration was done by the Vice Rector of the Innovation, Business, and Enterpreneurship Division of IPB, Prof. Erika B. Laconi and also by the Head of Puspiptek, Dr. Sri Setiawati.
This event is a part of the selection for the Student Enterpreneurship Program (PMW) 2018. There were 212 university students and 72 enterpreneurship groups who attended this Enterpreneurship Boothcamp. The enterpreneruship groups that participated the event were participated by agricultural students (8 groups), fisheries students (4 groups), animal science students (6 groups), culinary (28 groups), and service and innovation students (28 groups). This was reported by the Head of Committee and Director of Innovations and Enterpreneurship of IPB, Dr. Syarifah Iis Aisyah. “Those who passed the selection phase will then attend a series of programs from the Student Enterprenurship Program 2018 for as long as two days on the 9-10th of July 2018 at the Sumardi Sastrakusumah Auditorium at IPB’s Dramaga Campus.”
Dr. Sri Setiawati, The Head of Puspiptek-Kemenristekdikti in her speech announced that to become a technopreneur, one must be creative. In this era nowadays people shouldn’t stay quiet, sit down and wait. Instead people should search for an oppurtunity and work together as a team and master multidisciplinary abilities. “At one point you all will become enterpreneurs, therefore those who sell the product will be put in marketing, those making designs within the standard of design will be made by designers, and there will no longer be any boundaries between sciences. If there are still boundaries that are found, the people will never develop. In ASEAN, Thailand has Tom Yum as it’s superior culiner. The way they developed this product so that it is now accepted by the international community. The way they ceritify their products so that they are of international standard. In Indonesia, there are still many of these oppurtunities, but how to create these extra values to these products so that they are of higher economic value,” She explained.
Furthermore Dr. Sri gave an example, “For one type of raw material such as palm trees there are more than one hundred derivative products.”
She also explained that these enterpreneur oppurtunities must be continously created. “Here in Indonesia in the economic sector many Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Businesses (UMKM) are developing. This is causing Indonesia to become stronger during an economic crisis. Therefore, who will help these businesses? Students are the ones who can help through innovations and technology so that these businesses can be competent. One way of doing this is through Field Study Program (KKN).”
