Veterinarians Have Role in Raising Communities Awareness upon the Importance of Wildlife Conservation
Student Executive Board (BEM) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held "The 3rd National Veterinary Competition" which was attended by 8 universities in Indonesia in Common Class Room, Campus IPB Dramaga (18-20 / 5) .
M Alfinanda Satriagung as Chairman of the Executor expressed his hope, "This activity is aim to increase the love of veterinary students towards their profession in the future, can establish brotherhood and togetherness among veterinary students across Indonesia, can increase knowledge on the concept of wildlife conservation and also in controlling the conservation status of wildlife, especially in Indonesia, "said Alfi.
The speakers in this national seminar are drh. Ali Rizky Arasyi (Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Disease of FAO Indonesia), then continued with second speaker by Dr. drh Joko Pamungkas, MSc as Permanent Lecturer of Medical Microbiology Division.
Both confirmed that veterinary students play a role in raising public awareness of the sustainability of wildlife conservation in Indonesia. Wildlife functions in the balance of ecosystems, economics, research and study, forest and agricultural regeneration, genetic banks, and tourism and culture. So it is necessary to keep the wildlife habitat, control the extinction of wildlife from hunting and free trade.
There are various competitions in this "National Veterinary Competition" that is poster contest, educational film, veterinary quiz, and scientific writing contest. Poster contest is making a poster related to wildlife problem in Indonesia. Through posters contest, participant is expected to provide important information or education to the community to keep the wildlife in Indonesia.
The educational film competition has short film content that can provide important information or educate the public how important it is to preserve wildlife conservation in Indonesia.
The veterinary quiz exercises good dexterity in answering written questions related to veterinary materials, as well as answering oral questions quickly and meticulously.
The last contest is scientific writing competition, each team (group) of the competition branch presented each scientific idea that can support the control of the number of wildlife in Indonesia.
"National Veterinary Competition" this year is very good, creative, and very important also because not just join the competition but meet new friends is fun, let alone meet veterinary students all over Indonesia. I and others can exchange ideas on how to teach in their respective universities, educational curricula, lecture materials, lab materials, and student activities other than college. And for this competition to win or lose is not the main purpose because the main thing is the experience, can know each other among veterinary students in Indonesia, telling stories, and keeping in good relationship for the future, "said Annisa M as one of the participant.
