IPB Increases Agricultural Sector Cooperation with Barito Kuala Regency

Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) with Barito Kuala District, South Kalimantan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in IPB Campus, Dramaga, on Thursday, 26 April 2018. The MoU is to establish collaboration in the field of education and research, especially in improving the quality of human resources in education, agriculture, research and community service.

Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria, the draft of cooperation agreement includes among other, the education, research programs, animal husbandry and fishery development, and community services. The signing of MoU enables the Barito Kuala District, South Kalimantan, utilizes IPB's innovations, thought and technology and learning for the  community development. IPB will also develop Sekolah Peternakan Rakyat (SPR School of Animal Husbandry) in Barito Kuala District. Animal Husbandry Centre and School of Animal Husbandry are two things that complement each other in order to manage the Smallholder Farmers. Animal Husbandry Centre development will be directed more in its hardware in providing facilities for the breeders needs. Whereas the School of Animal Husbandry will  be more on software development or mental improvement and way of thinking breeders.

"Campus can utilize SPR as research laboratories and community service. The unity and cohesiveness of government, college, and ranchers should be strengthened to realize  their independence and sovereignty in contributing for the development of national livestock," said Rector.

Rector also hopes that the cooperation between IPB and Barito Kuala Regency will be well-implemented, not only in agriculture in a broad sense, but also in education. Through the cooperation the Regency is expected to increase its total funding support for the Regional Delegates Scholarship (BUD), to enable more prospective students of Barito Kuala District to pursue their higher degree program into IPB.

Vice Regent of Barito Kuala, Rahmadian Noor, welcomed this cooperation. Barito Kuala District, South Kalimantan is a potential region for the formation of various energy and mineral resources,  and natural resources development, particularly for livestock, agriculture and fisheries. “In-depth study and analysis for the development of the potential resources is really needed, to be more productive Regency proportional and professional management is rqquired,'' he said. He added for human resources development (HR), South Kalimantan Province has established cooperation with educational institutions to improve professional development of its human resources.

''We believe with the development and technology transfer with respect to agriculture, fisheries, and  animal husbandry carried out by IPB, natural resources of Barito Kuala District will grow from upstream to downstream. I welcome the cooperation in the field of education, especially through the Regional Delegate Scholarship (BUD), the Regency will be able to send its prospective students to pursue their higher degree program into IPB. They will return to their own Regency later after being graduated to develop Barito Kuala District according to their respective competencies," he said.

This cooperation was signed, by Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria, and Vice Regent of Barito Kuala, South Kalimantan, Rahmadian Noor.

Other guests present in this special event were the Head of Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM IPB), Dr. Aji Hermawan, Deputy Head of LPPM for Research, Prof. Agik Suprayogi, Deputy Head of LPPM for Community Service, Prof.Dr. Sugeng Heri Suseno, and a number of invitees of both institutions.
